Going to get some new alloys fitted. Considering winter is coming up I'd like to add protection.

What is best value for money? What do people recommend.

I would prefer to buy from Halfords as there is one near me for convenience. Also 3 for 2 offer on atm.

The only thing that's remotely durable in Halfords would be AG HD Wax but it's not cheap and in reality won't last long, your better off ordering something online that will be cheaper and provide a longer durable finish......

£15 is money. ideally looking to spend £5 to £10, but if I have to I will to look after the wheels. I guess I'll have to sacrifice a meal or two. I know it's only £15 but it all adds up.

Poorboys is OK but not as durable as some others, however for £13 it's not a bad investment.

845 is like 476 and FK1000P, all waxes marketed for paintwork use but can be used on wheels with some great results........

FK 1000P gets my vote.

OK it's not quite under £15, but it's good enough to use on the bodywork as well, plus it's a huge tin and will last you years (possibly forever)

Good call......

I'm currently using gtechniq on my alloys seems to be working well. Poorboys wheel sealant is also a good choice and is pretty cheap too.

+1 for Collinite 845 from personal use

But if ur on a budget, check out the second place as it was only 8quid!

thanks for all the suggestions. as a result i'm not going to halfords and have just ordered some collinite 845 for under £15 delivered. Can I use this for my bodywork under the sills and bumpers for winter protection?

476 and FK1000P is jargon to me, i'm guessing next model/version up from 845 and fk1000p is another brand of body wax.

yeah buy once, for a few quid extra it's worth it to protect the alloys.

i use wonder wheels with a brush to clean the wheels, do i need to reaply the wheel wax afterwards?

Had Supaguard done at an appalling price at the dealer when buying car new two weeks ago. Finish not as shiny as the pics on the FK link! Is Supaguard as good as this stuff? Would it work to smear it on now on top of the Supaguard?

Do a little research on 476s and FK1000p and you will see that they are alternative waxes similar to the 845 you have purschased apart from they fact they are hard waxes as opposed to liquid ones.

These waxes are for bodywork use so sills and bumpers are no problem......

Appalling price? May I ask how much you paid?

Supaguard is sadly not, the trouble is all these products rely on the surface being well prepped, I am guessing that your Supaguard application will have been completed at the dealer and sadly more than likely a five minute job, your money would have been better spent getting a local detailer to have completed a New Car Protection detail that would have been cheaper than the Supaguard job.........

Applying any wax on top of Supaguard is OK, sometimes however it's best to cut back and start again.......... :(

Which version of Wonder Wheels do you have?

i didn't know there are different versions, i just bought it from ASDA 2 bottle for £5, you spray it on and use the little brush that comes with it, then rinse off with water.

There is an acidic and non acidic version.

The acidic one whilst it is very good, wreck the lacquer on the wheels - would you wash your car's bodywork in acid? well the wheels are just painted and lacquered just like the bodywork.

The non acidic version will not do the same damage.

It says Wonder Wheels 'U' Universal Wheel cleaner on the bottle. Don't know if that's acidic version or not...I hope it's the safer one..

Any recommendatons for a good value for money safe alloy wheel cleaner?

That looks like the non acidic version as the acidic one comes in a screw top bottle with a cap to pour the cleaner into.

I am currently using Autobrite's Very Cherry (non acid) cleaner with very good results, I only need to use it every couple of months at the most as my wheels are sealed with FK1000P wax so most of the brake dust simply rinses off with the jet wash.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll consider those when my wonder wheels run out. it's good to know i haven't bought the acidic version of wonder wheels.
