QG1 oil top-up question

Featured Replies

Hi there,

just a bit confused by my Skoda handbook and wondered if anyone can help please? I own a 2010 Octavia 2.0 TDi (non DPF) which is on the QG1 (variable) service regime. Only bought it recently but on the way home from work yesterday the oil level light came on so I assume it will need topping up (not ideal I know as I should have checked it more recently but its only done about 2k miles since we purchased it and last time I checked the oil level it was fine).

I now have on order 5 litres of VW 507 oil but became somewhat confused upon checking the handbook to see if there is anything else I could use to top-up the oil meanwhile.

Until my VW 507 oil arrives I do not have any VW 505 01 or VW 507 00 oil but do have some 5W 30 ACEA B3 oil so I was wondering whether I could use say 0.5l of this meanwhile but this is what is confusing me:

'If the oils specified above are not available, oils according to ACEA B3 or ACEA B4 can be used once for refilling.'

Caution!

'Only the above-mentioned oils may be used on vehicles with flexible service intervals (QG1). We recommend always refilling with oil of the same specification since this will maintain the properties of the oil. In exceptional cases, you must top up only once engine oil complying with Specification VW 502 00 (only for petrol engines) or Specification VW 505 01 (only for diesel engines) to maximum 0.5 litres. You must not use other engine oils - risk of engine damage!'

I'm currently using my other car today as didn't even want to add 0.5l of the incorrect oil if the ACEA B3 or ACEA B4 oil which I already have is unsuitable even for a top-up and would rather wait until my VW 507 compatible oil arrives (by the way the service countdown is currently showing about 3900 miles until the first service is due).

thanks in advance.
