blocked cat

Featured Replies

Well after sticking my vrs on the diaganostics I find that my loss of power and serious flat spots are the cause of a blocked/blocking cat. If I get the guts pulled out of the cat or cut it out and sleeve the pipe will it affect the engine in anyway ?

Mean decat it?

Pop on ebay mate and you can pick up a 3" (2.75" to my measuring) for 90 or so £.

That will fit straight on to your std system or some slight mod to have it fit a cat back.

May I ask how its blocking? Never heard that before.

Apparently its crumbled inside and its stopping all the gasses escaping , bit of a nightmare as for the de-cat after buying the car only last week money is a tad scarce till next payday so if I get the cat cut off and weld a sleeved pipe over will that do and not affect anything ?

your basically making it decat so should be ok you may get a tad overfueling and a cel light on as you may with a decat but thats it, should be fine. if its std.

remaps normally sort it out but it will fail MOT unless he is a mate lol

have a look on ebay mate may be able to pick one up cheap off there(std DP and cat that is)

May I ask tho how do they know its crumbling?

Thank you m8. They sed the bits that have crumbled away you can smell burning (smells like rotten eggs). I've known it happen to m8s before but its not a very common thing.

sounds like iots done lots of short trips? and fuel has got to it?

I know what you mean, when they go they smell like that.

Should be ok to just cut the cat out and put a straight thru pipe in it, doesnt even need to be stainless. Have you got a zorst place near you? just pop in n ask what it will cost to cut the cat off and weld a pipe in.

Let us know how you get on mate

Appreceate the offer m8 but for keeping costs down I may just chop it and extract the guts or sleeve it and weigh my cat in :)

Take off and smash the inners out with a poll and refit. Cost nothing ;-)

Its going in that direction :)
