Auto dimming mirror

Featured Replies

Hi all,

One thing I miss about my cooper s is the auto dimming mirror that stopped me getting dazzled from people behind.

Is there a VAG version of this that might fit my VRS?? :-)

You can retrofit one. Golf Mk4 is a good donor car for the kit needed.

if you can get one from any vag group car then itll work providing its wired in (interior light loom could be used) but youll run into problems fitting it to the windscreen as the mount will almost certainly be a different sized ball to mirror combo or mount to windscreen fitting.

There's one parked in from of me now actually! Hmm...

I too had one on my bora, its quite a cool effect, wish the vrs had it.

had one on my '05 astra and loved it... tried to retro fit one to my A3 but needed to replace the windscreen to enable it all to be fitted... would love one on the vRS!

Personally I reckon that the interior mirror doesn't need auto dim as much as the door mirrors.. after all, the interior mirror can be flicked easily enough... but the door mirrors can't be altered in the same "tinting" way.. so rather than a convenient lazy boy upgrade, this would actually be a significant safety /comfort feature being installed if it could easily be hacked into the lighting circuit.

Maybe you could take power from the mirror switch illumination to avoid even having to get from the door to the shell.

It could all be so beautifully OEM+ :D (shame the glass is so pricey)

Just to jump on this, does anyone find that the mirror goes too dark at night on a congested motorway?

I was stuck on the M4 yesterday in SLOW traffic and the mirror was almost black so all I could see was dim car headlights. I couldn't even see my kids in the back seat.

Is there a way to turn it off :S
