so much love lost in a short space of time

Featured Replies

Well its been 5 weeks this friday since I drove my gleaming red octy vrs off the forecourt and I'm very dissapointed I've had problem after problem everytime its gone to get fixed a new problem has occured :( wheel bearing trackrod end exhaust air flow meter also I had service and coil packs done.

Ok it was a cheap car as it was on the v-cat regester as the passenger door was replaced but by golly am I paying that extra savings on it now and I'm really thinking about selling it its now 80% on the road to recovery and is a stunning very well looked after car but I'm so disheartend I just feel I'm no longer a lover of it and being my first 1.8 20vT I don't feel like I want another car like it my scooby was less problematic more expensive to run though.

Anyway sorry for the rant just need a bit of reasurance :-|

It's unfortunate that you've had a list of issues like that, but they are all wearing parts, and the car is 7 years old.

Yeh I suppose your right m8

Shame, just what happens when you buy a used motor.....Ive owned mine for a year now and ony had to replace the MAF sensor, but thats only a 2 min job.

Every VAG 1.8T (5) that I've owned I replaced the MAF, CTS, & coil packs straight away & had troublefree motoring. The mk1 VRS is a great car for little money, so it's worth persevering with a few teething probs.

I really miss my VRS, & will probably buy another one next year.

I think you've just been unlucky, and as said, the car is getting old. Mine is a 2002 model, so 9 years old. So far, I've had to replace wishbone bushes, brakes + 1 caliper, anti roll bar links, N75 valve, dv and a few other bits. Stuff doesn't last forever, and if you got one which didn't need the work doing, it would do eventually, if that makes sense.

Once it's sorted, it will last for ages, and you know that it's all OK mechanically.

It is unfortunate that you have had those issues, but they are the most common ones to experience, so bare with it and as stated should not need to worry about those parts again for a long time. Regular oil changes and good maintenance are all these cars really need.
