Video Desktop Wallpaper

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Any PC wizards around who can answer this?

I want to add this video to my laptop as an "Active" desktop wallpaper.

Any ideas how?

Im sure I did something with VLC player a few years ago, with limited success. Just wondering if there has been any improvements to do this!

I have An Alienware Laptop and a pretty decent desktop PC with i7 processors and Lots of Ram and Gaming GFX cards so Hardware shouldnt be an issue.

I have got the vid as an MP4 file using www.keepvid.com so thats the first step done.

Using a Video as an Active Desktop

Basically in Windows XP you can have an ActiveDesktop where you can display any HTML content. So if you have a page of HTML to display, you can change the Display properties of the XP desktop to display this page.

This simple application, http://weblogs.foxite.com/bernardbout/attachment/12996.ashx

asks for a Video file and generates a HTML page that you can then set as your ActiveDesktop so that you now get a Video, with sound playing. in your Desktop as Wallpaper.

Any video file can be used as long as it plays in Windows Media Player. Those that don't may need additional codecs.

Just navigate to the video file and select it and click Go. A HTML file will be created in the same folder as the video.

XP

To set this file as your ActiveDesktop follow the instructions in the same screen and pretty soon you will have a video playing as your wallpaper.

Vista and Windows 7

Vista and Windows 7 do not have the ActiveDesktop but you can get a similar effect by following the link provided on the application screen to install the ActiveDesktop Gadget http://www.bustatech.com/wp-content/uploads/files/ActiveDesktop.zip. Just follow the installation and setup instructions on that page.

You will also need to install Visual Fox Pro from here http://archive.msdn.microsoft.com/FoxPro/Release/ProjectReleases.aspx?ReleaseId=125 pick the latest version

Enjoy
