Been doing some messing about.

Featured Replies

Evening,

Has been a while since I did anything to the car so have decided to have a small mess.

* As some may know I have several sets of wheels, I have one small problem tho with wobble at 65mph up when using both sets of 17" spiders as I need to use spacers. It gets worse the higher the speed.

I am loving the eco of the spiders with the Michelin Pilot Sport tyres on and they have so much less noise than the Falken 452s and the Toyo t1R.

To try sort this tomoz I am swapping back to my std 312mm brakes so I can see whats what. also to see what eco I can get. I will be trying all sets of rims with and without the spacers.

One thing tho, if its the spacers, where can I get some good ones from? the ones I have are/were listed as hubcentric. Need to be 5mm to clear the Brembos. dont want any bigger ones tho.

* I also cleaned the K&N filter last week too after 10k miles which made the car more responsive and that coupled with fitting the 17" spiders and 225 45 17 Michelin PS took my mpg from 36-39 up to 40-43.5 :D

* And today, I put the std 710N Bosch DV back on instead of my Forge 007p with green spring and 1 spacer and again its a big improvement. the delivery is much smoother and generally feels nicer to drive. I am going to leave it on all week and see what its like when I am used to it.

I have a compbrake DV which I will also try next week. The Forge DV came with a yellow spring that was very hesitant and jumpy is the only way I could describe it. I should of checked it first really as I thought it was a green and needed the yellow. I swapped to the green and it made it better but not as nice as the std DV.

I will report back on the wobble after the weekend.......

Just to add for the newbies :p leave the car std. :giggle:

You love it lol.

I'll be messing with the mk4 over the next few weeks, after lowering at the weekend I've now got front arb driveshaft contact

I'll be trying some adjustable drop links before I consider winding the coils up! Also poly bushing the arb, wishbones and axle before I chuck the 18's on! As much as I can't be arsed......it's just addictive :giggle:

No doubt that once that's done there'll be something else to mess with :giggle:

you want decent alloy hubcentric spacers, forge do some of the best ones i have seen tho they are twice as expensive as most others

Right, today I put the std setup back on.

I only did 60+ for a few seconds down hill and OMG I think the wobble has gone. Will know for sure tomoz.

I can say tho that the std brakes are CRAP!!!

how any of you using the std stuff do it I dont know. I have brembo pads and EBC (D930 iirc) discs. They stop ok but the pedal travel is lots more than with the LCR Brembos, the Brembos only need to touch the pedal and you can feel them working, now the std stuff you really need to push more. They are blead properly, Might do them again tomoz just to make sure.

Cant wait for spring to get the Brembos back on, lol

Funny you should mention the 710N DV as a Revo tech once told me the hesitation problem I was experiencing on my Revo'd Golf mkiv Anniversary was down to the 007p, & he was right. The car ran much smoother & was more responsive on the OEM 710N.

lol, yea Paul, the more you do to the car, then revert back the more you see that skoda actually knew what they were doing lol.

Thats why I want to get the BAM engine and turbo and thats it. just swap it over. when this motor goes AWOL.

tbh too for the price of a Forge DV @ £80+ you can get 4 std Bosch valves for that. and one will last 2+ years at least!

:giggle:

still think the LCR had the good stuff on it just didnt have the looks the vRS has.
