Has anyone any idea when the TMC (Traffic Management Channel) is to be activated on the Octavia mark 2?

Allegedly this redirects you when there are any hold ups or problems with the route specified!

Wow it ACTUALLY steers!!!!?????

Dont know as yet but both myself and one of my staff get our cars (waiting since Oct) on Mon and both have Sat nav so will be able to give some more info then.

For TMC it probably needs a seperate TMC tuner and Teleatlas disc with TMC codes - cant vouch for the mk2 but this is how it is for the previopus blaupunk Skoda badged unit.

just recieved two cars with sat nav and neither has TMC working. also Skoda forgot to fit the CD changers. How can you miss them out at the factory !!

My Boss (jjc) and me took delivery of our Octy's yesterday. Both have the SavNav installed, but TMC does not function on either of them. Reading some of the posts on the VW Navi forums, all their units seem to need a separate receiver for the TMC functionality to be enabled. We're hoping this is not the case with the Skoda unit, but have the dealer chasing Skoda now.

Watch this space... that is unless you have any updates??

jjc - were your cars from DM Keith in Leeds? I heard the exact same problem whilst discussing sound systems with the sales chap.

He mentioned one car where they were having to upgrade the single slot CD head unit to the 6 disc in dash version, as it meant they didn't need to mess around with the cabling for the boot mounted changer that should have been fitted, but in your case with Sat nav they are going to have to put the changer in the boot.

No - the cars were from a dealer in Slough. jjc called in there today and it seems that the TMC thing is widespread. Skoda are getting queries from dealers all over the country regarding the lack of TMC functionality. Further investigations by John and me seem to indicate that Skoda are shipping the head units with the wrong Navi CD Rom.

We found a Tele Atlas CD for sale on eBay and it has 'TMC' stamped on the front (and is being listed as such) - ours do not!!

Seems we're not the only ones missing CD changers too... :thumbdwn:

Update

the head unit does support TMC, and the CD supplied does not.

Pn ISBN 90-428-0376-2 does not support TMC

ISBN 90-428-0377-0 does support it.

I have just mailed the dealer so watch this space to see what happens.

Unless Skoda state that a TMC disk is included I guess you may have to buy one - Its a bit like an optional extra - GB TMC disks are more expensive as the money goes to the company who provide the TMC coding. In some countries the paymant is subsidised by Goverments but not in the UK. Not sure what disk is provided on Superbs with Sat Nav - again I think the manual states its available if a suitable TMC disk is used. You will see the different prices and disks on the Teleatlas site.

Best of Luck

John

the brochure shows a pic of the sat nav and it has the TMC active so in my view they should be providing the TMC disk or I would say it is false advertising.

Agree and guess you would have a good case. Is the brochure picture a UK map? as TMC functionality is included in European disks. I seem to remember Its the UK that have 2 disks available 1 with and 1 without TMC coding the extra charge for TMC fee which Teleatlas have to pay.

the brochure is the UK one and the pick does not say "not UK spec" as some of the others do but it does not look like any part of the UK.

It is in the hands of Skoda at the moment so will have to wait and see but in my view as the unit supports this function they should provide the correct disk. the extra cost in this country could either be covered by Skoda or added to the cost of the unit.

I heard that when ordering the car with sat nav, if the dealer didn't tick the cd autochanger box then you won't get it.

I have spoken with the dealer involved with our company and he is to question Skoda Technical. He informs me the dealers are not aware of other cd's. I shall keep you all posted.

 Just had news back from the software providers for the sat nav system on the latest Octavia.

"The disc supplied with your vehicle did not support the TMC function.

To update your navigation disc, I advice you to wait untill 20th od April for the 2005 version with TMC.

Please find attached the product description for this product.

You can purchase the UK&Ireland 2005 DX for 91.99GBP (incl. VAT / excl. shipping costs)

or the UK&Ireland + Major Roads of Europe 2005 DX for 111.99GBP (incl. VAT / excl. shipping costs)

or the UK&Ireland Itis (TMC codes) for 111.99GBP (incl. VAT / excl. shipping costs)"

Hope this helps everyone!

So how does this help? -it hints you need to pay - TMC has been available on a Teleatlas disc UK map disc since 2004 (thats the one I use) all they are saying is wait for the next UK map release that is due in April 2005.

One of my other staff who went for the Audi A6 had the same problem, Audi have ordered him a disk no questions asked. Are we as Skoda buyers second class citizens as my request is "with Skoda technical support" :thumbdwn: :thumbdwn:
