Clutch/flywheel

Featured Replies

I have searched, and brought up a few threads, all with conficting views.

The DMF is chattring like **** with the clutch half depressed. so, looking into changing it, got a budget of about £350/400. is it worth changing to a single mass, I understand why the DMF is fitted in the first place, but with a stage 2 fabia vrs, what sort of lifetime is it going to have? also, where is the best place to get them? ebay has come up with a LUK dmf kit for £387.

Are you changing all the clutch components? That LUK DMF kit (I assume by kit you mean flywheel/friction plate/cover?) is probably going to only be designed for standard torque levels, so you'll probably kill it pretty quickly. What clutch is on it at the moment?

tbh, i have no idea whats on it. its the mrs' car and she doesnt really give it death all day long. and tbh, i use it to go to work in the evenings rather than my lcr, and its more pootled at 70 ish then.

it does have a receipt for a sach clutch plate but nothing else.

You have a stage 2 vrs?

Over 200bhp?

You really need an uprated clutch

Choices are

Sachs and dmf

Or the likes of helix, spec, etc with an smf

Defo wouldnt be putting a standard item back in thats for sure

Budget about £1000 all in

Yeah, from the vid, I'd say that's pretty knackered...and agreed with Jase, if it is a "stage 2" vRS then I assume that's got at least a remap on it (bear in mind that there's no fixed "stages" really) and even with just a remap you should have an uprated clutch (your Sachs invoice could be for an uprated friction plate but you really should have the uprated cover to clamp it as well) and if its a hybrid then probably an SMF. You're not going to find a full kit (flywheel, plate, cover) suitable for £400 IMO although you might get away with just buying an SMF and running it with a DMF friction plate, a few people on here have.

I've bought a standard kit for £300. Tbh I'd sooner replace a clutch and flywheel 3 times in 60k than end up paying £1200 for it to last 40k. My LCR is running a shade over 300lb/ft on the standard dmf and clutch, which is the same as the 150pd item.

I'm not saying I couldn't put up with the noise from the flywheel, however, putting up with the noise from the mrs because of the noise from the flywheel takes a alot more!

Smf and helix will last the lifetime of the car, its a fit and forget item

At stage 2 power i bet i could muller a stock clutch in a week

Tbh it's never really driven hard, I can't see it killing a stock item that quickly. Even if it does, I've got a fairly decent parts place so I'll get a warrenty item on it.

But also, I'd sooner break the car than spend £1k on a clutch, IMO there's no point in spending 1/4 of the cars value in a wearing part.

But then you could add the same point to all the other mods you've added?

We've not added anything, it came in as part ex against one of my other cars, so it really only owes me £2k. So spending half of the cars value to me, is pointless when the interior, engine and box will see me in profit.
