guys and gals i needs some help!!!

coolant error code p1296 has brought the dreaded engine managment light on, on a mates mk1 ocy vrs.

it runs like a bag of cr4p from cold but fine when warm.

coughs splutters etc and even cuts out.

i've been over all the breather hoses etc and replaced any dodgy ones.

he's fitted a coolant sensor - green one on the nearside of the head.

temp sits dead on 90 so not thermostate.

any other idea's?? i'm thinking faulty coolant sensor as it wasn't as bad as it is now a few weeks on from fitting the new sensor.

Genuine green VAG CTS doesn't usually fail, but ebay or aftermarket do.
