Car behaving strangely - ASR

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

I'm not sure if this has been cover before, so sorry if it has. How does the ASR cut the power? I'm thinking it uses the N75 to open the wastegate to release boost, as my vRS is behaving extremely odd. With the ASR left on, the car seems to have plenty of guts, however when accelerating hard, you can feel, and hear the boost coming on an off throughout most of the revs. If you turn the ASR off, it hardly does this at all, however the car seems really sluggish, and displays no sense of urgency whatsoever.

I am still in the process of sorting a few bits, including the intercooler pipe as I believe it has a leak, but I'm not sure if the N75 could have an issue as well, due to the boost coming on and off.

It uses the n249 system to open the dv as well as the n75 if it needs to.

The vRS is pretty carp at putting the power down on cold and damp roads.

It's not traction or anything I'm having issues with, I just can't understand why it would feel slower, but smoother with the ASR off, unless the N249 is faulty of something, but then surely that wouldn't cause the car to be sluggish as well.

Thanks for the info anyway. I shall be removing the N249 after christmas. I've already got the stuff to do it.

Anybody else had an issue like this before?

If am going for a spirited drive then the asr is switched off as i find it far to sensative especially with damp weather

My ASR is off at all times just due to the fact that if i need to give it a bit of leg say getting out of a junction it'll chime in and stop me dead on occasions. Mapped even with Conti Sport Contact 3's it'll spin them up. Car shifts much better with it off as the computer isn't trying to get in the way.

However as to why it'd feel weird with it off god knows! Boost issues probably the only thing it could be, so N249 or N75 like RK696 earlier in the thread has said. If you've already got boost leak issues though it could very well be that!

Thanks for the responses guys. I'm going to sort the intercooler pipe out in January, which I hope will cure a lot of issues. I'm beginning the think the N75 or N249 is dodgy; it's bloody weird though as I can't see any reason why it would feel slower with the bloody ASR off!? N249 is coming off anyway with the SAI & EGR etc, but I was kind of hoping I didn't need to buy an N75.

We shall see! Hope to get it sorted soon, so that it's ready to be mapped!

Cheers

Sam
