Hello, I need help how to connect reverse camera and iphone/ipod with this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/AV-MULTIMEDIA-INTERFACE-VW-MFD-AUDI-NAVI-PLUS-IPOD-0001-/280572316987?pt=UK_CE_GPS_Accessories_Software_ET&hash=item415369cd3b#ht_2573wt_977 to my skoda dx navigation system?

In my old post member for this forum, Nackuk told me to buy this Av-multimedia interface, but now I'm stuck.

Also I buy this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2-x-RCA-Female-1-x-Male-Audio-Y-Splitter-Phono-Cable-/360415254462?_trksid=p4340.m185&_trkparms=algo%3DDLSL%252BSIC.NPJS%26its%3DI%26itu%3DUCI%252BUA%26otn%3D10%26pmod%3D360389262338%252B360389262338%26po%3D%26ps%3D63%26clkid%3D4801381266304230934 and now I dont now what to do.

If someone or if Nackuk read this pls help me, and sorry for my bad english.

Hi there.

This diagram has almost everything you need to do the job. Print it out large enough to read.

The only thing not on here is the Ipod to RCA lead which you need to have - (and in my experience any less than £20 are no good).

to do the job in hand you need:

1). Multi media AV box.

2). 12V relay

3). AV lead long enough to go from the rear of the car where the camera is to the multi media box.

4). Red Cable for power from rear light bulb to camera.

5). Green Cable for eathing the camera to body.

6). Red cable for power from the reversing lamp to the relay (I located mine by the AV box)

7). Green Cable for earthing the relay and muli media unit.

8). four inline fuses. (essentail if you don't know what your doing).

9). Spare time to put the wires in.

If you can't follow the diagram, you probably need to find someone local to you who can and point you in the right direction.

I'm happy to help on here but the diagram says it all really.

Hey thanks to reply. I will go tomorow to my friend, and he will help me do this. But he isnt very much experienced, and we will probably need your help.

I printed this diagram, and some other your photos that we know what we have to do.

All in all, pls stay with us because we need your help to finish this project! :smirk:

oh I forgot, I have some china camera from e-bay,and they send me some cable with her, do you think that is quality to do his job or need to buy new av cable?

you can only try it.

note routing the cables properly around the rear seat is a pain in the butt.

Ok my friend I did it...but now have one(well two) big problems!:(

Is there a chance to disable NO SIGNAL, when I stop the car and set my gear to neutral?

Second problem is:Is there a chance to get back menu like on the radio when I have option to chose which radio station want to listen?

Because, now unfortunately I can only see notification about safety and atc. When I click audio I get settings menu, and in AUX is Audio and Video.

Me and me friend did it all on the diagram but, now I have these problems...Pls help. :'(

Because, now unfortunately I can only see notification about safety and atc. When I click audio I get settings menu, and in AUX is Audio and Video.

Me and me friend did it all on the diagram but, now I have these problems...Pls help.

1). When I installed mine I had a lot of head scratching myself. SO I try to help as follows.

2). I will explain how I understand the unit works and hopefully this will help.

3). If you select the vid/aux on the DX unit, as soon as you move the car, whatever is on the screen will get covered by a safety message. (The Vid/Aux mode is for if you have the TV module for the DX unit). This is not what we want and you DO NOT need to select Vid/Aux on the DX unit to get the video.

4). From what I understand all the AV mutlimedia box does is converts any video signal into 3 seperate video signals the DX unit understands ie red, green, blue. The box also connects the relevant pins in the socket to pretend that the car is reverse gear.

5). What the box does with the new switch is to tell the DX unit you are reversing and to automaticaly go into reverseing camera video mode (in case you have a reversing camera connected).

6). Although if you select Vid/aux on the DX unit you can see video this is not what we are fully aiming for. From your message above I take it you do get a video signal so I will move on.

7). Getting the switch to operate is what is important.

8). As said above you do not need to select vid/Aux setting on the DX unit itself. The new switch will override everything and go into reverseing camera video mode. The relay in the circuit that is powered via the reversing lamp coming on just works as an automatic switch to the new manual one we have put in.

9). To simplifiy trouble shooting here, disconnect the wires from the relay and make the wire ends safe (ie cover up the ends so no short ciruciting goes on).

10). From the begining, lets take it you have no video signal going in, ie no Ipod or revering camera connected and you are listening to the radio.

11). If you have installed it to the diagram and it is wired correctly, then when you flick the new switch into the on position the screen will go blue (well on mine it does). It does not matter what the DX unit is doing be it playing Radio, CD or Sat Nav. IT WILL GO INTO VIDEO MODE AUTOMATICALY. (ie the DX unit thinks you are reversing). It should be noted that no other switches on the DX unit will work whilst in this mode (ie with the new switch in the on postion).

12). If this does not happen something is wrong. Either its not getting the +12V correctly or the earth is not good enough.

13). I had two intiial problems myself. The first was the cable that come with the box is very cheap and nasty. At the box end the earth wire had broke (I fixed). The second was I used scotch locks and they weren't tight enough to make good electrical connections - they did when the DX unit was out of the dash but when I pushed it back in the obvisouly were not good enough.

14). Once you have got the switch working then you can connect the relay up again.

15). There are several type of relay you can get i the UK. i) A normally open. ii) a normaly closed and iii) a realy with a normaly open and normaly close contact. You can use either i or iii (iii as long as you using the normaly open connection). Please check the relay is the correct type AND the connections are correct.

16). Put the car into reverse gear and the reversing lights should come on.

17). The cable you have connected from the reversing light will provide +12V to the relay. The relay contact inside will close ( you should here it go click when it does) and the video mode will automaticaly come on. All this relay does the same as the new switch only you dont need to press it.

18). Take the car out of reverse gear and the +12V to the relay will no longer be there (and the reversing lights will have gone out) and the DX unit will go back to normal screen.

I hope this helps. There are numbers by the points if you get stuck to help reference by if more help is needed.

MilanM,

I take it the yours has a blue/white wire as per this diagram and comes with a switch.

If so this is not shown on my diagram and mine didn't come with a switch included.

I would suggest that the switch is taken off.

The red, yellow, and white/blue are connected together (they are all +12 anyway) to one wire.

This one +12V wire is then feed through a switch as per my circuit.

Ok, tnx for these quick reply! B)

Hm, problem is(I think) that my friend aint put relay.

You said and I quooted:"If you have installed it to the diagram and it is wired correctly, then when you flick the new switch into the on position the screen will go blue (well on mine it does). Well, screen really goes blue and when I drive he put me safety message on.But when I stopped on traffic light, and put gear in neutral, he (screen) say me no signal. When I continue to go he again put me safety message, and over and over again.I think my friend didnt put relay, and this is why it happening.I will check tomorrow early in the morning and I will answer you what he did and I hope you can help me that I finish alone without him.Because I'm not sure that he know what he doing.

All in all camera works, also dx play music, but its preety much annoying when he put me safety message and NO SIGNAL when I stop on traffic. :dull:

ps sorry for my bad english :(

We had used blue white whire to vire manuel switch? Is that wrong?

Yes my friend he connect red, yellow and blue-white together. Is it because I have these problems?

Is there solution?

This should be fine.

However with my unit I found it worked better when the red and yellow wires were connected via the switch too. This way there is no power to the unit unless you want video.

I say this as the +12V wire on mine was always using electricity. I know this as the AV mediabox was always warm. Hence I did not want a flat battery.

Something to note and maybe what you were trying to get at.

With mine if I am only after an audio source from my Ipod then I do select Aux/Vid on the DX unit. (in the settings menu I have this selected to Audio only).

The new switch does not need to be in the on position for music (This switch is only ever needed to be in the on position for video [see note 1 below]).

Music from the Ipod goes through the AV box even if the is no power to it. Then you do not have the boring screen with no signal or the safety sign on the display.

Note 1: The relay is like pressing this new switch. (With the relay fitted you should not need to press the switch to the on positon when reverse gear is selected).

Ok so if I understand you well, you sugest me to separete red and yellow wires from blue-white and do what?

And you sugest me to install relay on switch?

And if I do that all I will not have problem with stupuid safety message?

try connecting the red and yellow wires to the blue and white but on the box side of the switch.

An update on the conversations above. Due to a fualt with my car I have used the VCDS diagonistics and on the occassions that I have the rear veiw camera facility stops working. I didn't consider this to be the issue, the first time it stopped working and I thought it was just concindence it had stopped working. So started to trace the fault but couldn't find one. At some point I took the battery's earth off to charge it whilst not using the car. The rear veiw camera started work when I used the car next.

Anyway I have now noticed that every time I use the VCDS diagonstics (and it does check the sat nav system) the rear veiw camera stops working. To get it working again just take the batterys earth lead off long enough for the sat nav system requiring you to reinput the security code. Once you have the sat nav on again you should find the rear view camera works once more like magic.

Trust it may help for the future.

(mind it may help if this thread was titeled rear view camera :giggle: )
