MkII estate front washer / rear wiper problem

Featured Replies

Hello,

Had a good hunt around and can't find this specific problem anywhere, so here goes...

The front washers, rear wiper and rear washer have all packed up on my 57 estate. The fault was intermittent for a while, but is now permanent.

Both relevant fuses (41 and 42) look OK, but there doesn't seem to be any voltage across them when I operate the stalk.

The pump doesn't seem to be operating either (ie I can't hear it).

So, I reckon it's either a faulty stalk (it's the forward and back motions which trigger the offending functions) or a dodgy relay.

Does that sound right? Or is there another fuse somewhere that I should check?

Any help much appreciated!

Many thanks,

David

Sounds like the stalk to me, but I've not got experience of this so dont quote me on it

Both the wiper and indicator stalks are known to be a weak point. This would be my first fix attempt.

My washers recently packed up totally -- nothing front or rear. The pump just didn't run at all.

A new washer pump, for around £35 at main dealers, totally cured the problem.

Try the pump before changing the stalk. Remove the off side front fog light or blanking plate, removing the black panel next to it first by sticking your finger through the hole and pulling it off. You can then reach inside and simply lift the pump out of the bottle. Disconnect the pipes, and then check to see if the pump runs when connected directly to the battery. It really is a 5 minute job to get the pump out this way -- don't believe the workshop manual or ELSAWIN which says you have to take the front bumper off-- YOU DON'T.

But how would the washer pump stop the rear wiper from working?

Thanks all for your advice.

Took it to the dealer's for diagnosis, and it turns out the pump and motor are fine.

They think it's a wiring problem, but couldn't get the wiring diagram from the Skoda system so told me to take the car away and come back next week.

Will let you know what they find.

Thanks again,

David

Very interested in this one as im sure i have a wiring problem with my 09 vRS estate. No rear wiper or boot lock, no front wipers and no pump working now for either. But all have been working recently which is strange.

Am getting a few lights flickering on and off aswell eg the rear number plate lights even when they aint turned on (sounds like earth to me)
