BG 244 or BG 248..? Engine Cleaner for Diesel Cars

Featured Replies

Anyone knows the difference between those..??? BG 244 costs £23.00 for 325ml, BG 248 costs £16.00 for 325ml but to be honest I don't know which one is better and why there is a difference in the price...I have remapped Fabia MK2 1.9TDI is that helps.

Cheers, Matty

i have no idea what you are on about.

Haven't looked it up but if they are both for diesel engines then one may be a high quality engine fuel system cleaner for cars with no DPF, the other may be for cars with a DPF. I think Seboni knows about this stuff and will probably be along soon to explain.

Cheers Estate Man...

I don't really think I have DPF in my car (Fabia Sport MK2 1.9TDi reg. in Feb 2008) so does it really matter which one I use..??

244 is just a cleaner. Albeit a very effective one if you believe the blurb. It offers no performance increase other than cleaning your car out of any crud thereby restoring original performance. Its something you add every service, not continually. some garages swear by it. Doubt you would see any benefit on a newer car that run premium fuel.

248 is a regular use additive. Still cleans like 244 but probably more slowly and is a longer terms product. Raises cetane and offers a lubricant for your HP pump. If it works I can see the benefit for common rail cars. An equivalent to this would be Millers Ecomax although I dont think Millers includes a lubricant.

I did look in to 244 as an option for the future so I looked in to it a bit. I confess the 248 info is straight off the net

It's BG 244 ;) redex has seemed to work on my 1.4tdi but may have been a placebo ;) however this BG 244 is well known in the USA and is not a placebo it does really work!!, check YouTube and check there website for further info, when my redex runs out I will be chucking it in the 2 fabias ;)

Neither !

Put premium fuel in. The price of the additive makes up for the difference. If your really keen to give it a go my money is on BG244 at each service.

Neither ?? Definatly put the BG 244 as the BG 44 is for petrol, BG product are the only product that removes all the carbon build up in the fuel system !!

3 years ago Andy from Powerenhancer revealed to the public the importance of PEA chemistry in fuel system and engines cleaners. It appears that Polyether-amine is now a hot topic of discussion on most automotive web sites; probably to the dismay of many Injector Cleaner producers. As a result of Powerenhancer’s revelation, many manufacturers are now marketing the fact that their product contains PEA. But how much and which formula? The trouble is that many of them contain very little workable PEA and most contain older PBA chemistry (not dissimilar to thinners).

We’ve tried most fuel system cleaners, injector cleaners and engine cleaners or carbon removers. The only 2 products we have found to successfully clean the fuel system AND remove carbon build-up are the BG44K / BG244 and Archoil range.

In fairness, the likes of Redex, Forte, STP and other more elaborate named products do a reasonable job of cleaning petrol or diesel injectors as any solvent based cleaner does. However, where they fall short is with the carbon removal and removing deposits from the combustion and post combustion areas. Unfortunately, the proper patented PEA (as found in 44K and 244) is considerably more expensive that PBA’s. I am in the trade and the trade/cost price for 44K and 244 is almost £14 each! That’s much more than the retail price of its competitors. Genuine PEA in high concentrations is not cheap! But then we could use 10 x bottles over 10 x tanks of fuel of another leading injector cleaner only to find that carbon build-up remains. Whereas we know that 44K, 244 and Archoil are guaranteed to remove all carbon in a single treatment.

Neither ??

I should have qualified that. I dont recommend either because I havent ever used them.

Personally though I would prefer to pay for the more expensive fuel rather than a frequent additive. I will seriously consider BG244 because as you say, there is good evidence all over the place of its positive results. Considering my car has a VV Turbo and an EGR valve the thought of a product that can keep them clean and free moving is encouraging.

Currently I keep them clean with a leaden right foot now and again

Me too only need to use once a year 10-12 k a year so not too much expense, I use vpower diesel and when out of warranty the 244 will be going into the crtdi ;)

Knew I can count on you guys...One more question..? Can you mix 244 and 248, put it in the tank and drive it...I'm only asking as 248 seems to be cheaper one and when I saw the description it actually looks like 248 does more on the plus side to your car, I might be wrong but it's always worth to ask...

The 244 is the first one to use and then use the 248 wouldn't have thought you would be able to mix, there's a reason the 248 is cheaper it's not got the same amount of PEA in it so will not clean as much carbon , it's fine for common rail but need to check for DPF

Received my magic formula from Harry Potter, BG244 it states the can is for 60 litre tank of fuel the fabia is 45 so shall I ? , put the whole can in? Or make a guesstimation ?

Looking at their website I think you can put the whole can in the car only if it's a small engine like a bike do you reduce the amount.
