Anyone tried 235/40/18's on the fronts

Featured Replies

Looking to replace my front (road) tyres. Currently have 225/40/18's but would like something a little more beefy.

The offset is ET35 and I've never had any rubbing issues, I'm just wondering whether anyone else has tried this setup with 235/40's up front?

Your thoughts and opinions please.

Steve

Pretty sure that 235's on the front & 225's on the rear would actually be illegal. i.e wider tyres have to be on the rear.

Just done some digging around. You are correct, what I'm proposing is illegal.....

Oh well. Delete the thread please moderators.

I have 225/40/18s on the front and 215s on the rear and it appears to be legal here.

But the 225s rub on full lock at the front or over big bumps at the rear. 35mm offset same as yours.

And it's not that low!

Why would you want to do that tho? dont forget that your tyres on the front would be a lot bigger than the ones on the rear as they will be 40% of 235 = 94m side wall as to the 225 40 would be 90mm or something like that. thats a big difference mate

225 40 18 = 1921.75mm

235 40 18 = 1945.88mm

a difference of 1.26% or 24.13mm

not really a lot lol, but enough.

94m side wall

:giggle:

( that's the type of typo's I make )

Wasn't this covered in a thread a while ago ?

Seem to recall from that thread, you it was ok to have different size tyres, as long as the same size across the axle

If you had 235/35R18 wouldn't that solve the side-wall issue ?

I was put off going bigger by just lookng at the price difference in tyres. Alot of $ for little rubber, let alone fitting issues.
