MG badge sold to China

Featured Replies

According to the paper.Apparantly to be announced 20th April

We know about the company involvement with China but why do Rover always sell their assets and get left in the lurch after someone strips them of any good bits

BMW obviously knew what to do with' mini ' then do a runner. Why couldn't Longbridge think of it? Why can't they make a decent MG car now?Sorry to you enthusists but their supercar MG is a hunk of Halfords junk and the rest of the silly 'MG' models are the same( yet the old ones are appealing.)

Think this is the final death knell for Rover and a very sad day indeed.I think the company is an embarrassment and it makes me fume at the wasted opportunities.

Why are we so rubbish with industry and incredibly naive. Are we good at anything?

Has it actually been sold? I thought it was more of a "partnership"...Rover would get

As far as I'm concerned, MG died in 1980. Everything since has just been badge-engineering.

Perfectly plesent and acceptable car in 1995

late 90's 25 model

Long in the tooth and curiously similar to the 200. Shocking fit and finish in the bodywork. A big no no. This was the time to loose this model and freshen the thing up:

i am beyond words here - the 2005 model

The same can be said of the rest of the range, but the new boots in the 200 and 400 range are simply bad design. It looks so bad. As has already been said the MG varients don't add a lot but i do love the ZT260. i will own one one day, maybe in 5 years when they are 5000-6000 grand :(

You reckon it'll take that long? :D

Erm - perhaps not. Just a quick look on trader reveals an 04 plate (12 months old) for

So the Chinese have bought the MG Badge ???

It just means everytime you get one you'll want another after half an hour :rofl::rofl:

(ok, someone had to say it.....I'll get my coat...........

ZT 260 is nice...+500 quid for a blower and it's got to be some serious fun...I know Paul will miss his.

As hard as it is to say, it felt different from any other Rover, sorry MG i'd sat in of late. I'd go to 15k for one tomorrow, after all engine is hardly going to be stressed.

Almost as good mpg as the octy, certainly not evil.

But we digress, China is a vast market of potential. I suspect there will be plant closures etc so while they might not be buying the brand, they will effectively control it?

Don't forget the image over there might be different from here...as ours is in say India.

I have to disagree on the 25 - although I'm beginning to think I had a good one!

I ran a 1.4 84ps model for three years, and thought it was excellent. Great comfort level, good fuel economy (petrol model) and it was very solid and reliable. Great to drive, both around town and on the motorway.

My sister bought a brand new MG ZR (my 25 was 2 years old when I got it) and the fit and finish was no where near the standard Rover, it really was poor (a sign of things to come??).

From the reviews I read at the time there were only 25% shared components between the 200 and 25, the rest was either new or BMW sourced (it had a BMW wiring loom, amoungst other things). The 45 was the better car, and the 75 looked fantastic.

I'm sad to see the badge go - not to China but just out of the UK. I had hoped that MG and Riley etc would have been sold off or kept in a dusty vault somewhere. Still, if they make the cash for the ex-workers I don't begrudge them to much.
