Basic VRs Buying Help Please

Featured Replies

Hi all, my first post in here. I am going to go look at a 2005 VRs tomorrow in Leeds. It has done 41k miles with full service history. The belt has just been done but not the water pump. It seems after reading into it, that the PD130 engine likes it's water pump to be changed with the timing belt. Is this the case?

On a general note, what are the main points to look for when viewing these cars?

Many thanks,

Antony.

Check the rear footwells for moisture- the door seal carriers often need re-sealing but this isn't a hard job, may help you negotiate a price thou :)

Cambelt and Waterpump are often replaced at the same time yes.

Obviously check for any accident damage or body work that may help you to knock some money off the sale.

I'm sure there's other things people will point out in due course, Good Luck and Welcome to Briskoda

what sort of price is it mate? if you dont mind me asking.

Welcome also.

Check for knocking suspension, and clutch slip too (although applicable to most cars anyway).

They all seem to pull to the left slightly too, so don't alarmed/put off unless it's really bad. Could be a good bargining point if the seller isn't aware of this trait!

Thats a myth. But yes if it pulls and its not a tragedy - it can be fixed.

Agreed there. The one I just got pulled and he said its normal, I put it in to my local pace on the hunter kit and now, well its straight lol. They are ok if car is std but they can't get my octavia right.

Meh, mine pulled all the time, even after new springs, tyres, bushes, tracking, and a steering rack.

Maybe my chassis was bent or something, but I'm not the only one to report the issue. Still, one more thing for the OP to be watchful of.

Didn't Skoda even have a PR about it at some point?

Some dealers recommend the pump's changed, others don't. It wasn't done on my 2004vRS but has been on my 2007vRS - at the same dealer!

do you mean the fuel pump?

When I turn ignition on on mine, I get like a squidgy air thru pipe kinda sound from the drivers side. like there is air in the fuel lines?

what could that be?

It all works fine.

is it something to be worried about?

Normal, they all do that.
