Painting a roof box

Featured Replies

The clue is in the title.

Anyone done it?

Any recommendations for products etc?

Better done by a paintshop?

I'm guessing it'd be cheaper than vinyl wrapping it in my ahem.. chosen colour scheme?

Be interesting to see if anyone has done this. Have seen a Seat Altea with a red box and thought it looked good.

I hadn't thought about vinyl.....I wonder if Red would look good on my car with it.

As long as its prepped properly, correct primer used I see no reason why it couldn't be colour coded.

As long as its prepped properly, correct primer used I see no reason why it couldn't be colour coded.

Any tips for prepping?

My approach would be:

1. Remove lid (this is the bit being painted)

2. Wash with detergent to remove dead bugs etc

3. Through clean with something "chemical" and plastic friendly

4. Light sanding for "keying" - This may be a struggle as IIRC the box has a slight texture

5. Plastic Primer - possible bild up in layers to "fill in" above texture to a degree

6. Flat back

7. Paint B)

I'll have to see if I can find a stencil for my idea....... ;)
