Disconnecting the battery

Featured Replies

hi

my cruise control stopped working a few weeks ago and I tried to clean the switch in the stalk numerous times but it's still not working.

Is it possible that there could be a fault code stored that causes the problem?

I was thinking about disconnecting the battery for a while to clear the code.

If I do that will I need a radio code or will it work fine?

Thanks for any help

There should be a fault code stored, disconnecting the battery will not erase the fault code, only repairing/replacing the faulty item will do that.

Get a VCDS scan to be sure of the fault before changing anything, do your brake lights still work correctly? if the brake light switch has failed (fairly common failure) then the CC will not work either.

U wont loose the stereo code mate my battery has been disconnected for about a month and then reconnected and disconnected nearly every day for the last month and no issues other than the steering warning will come on until you turn the wheel lock to lock and then will go out.

Hope u get the cc sorted

Did you completely dismantle the switch and remove from the stalk?

Did you completely dismantle the switch and remove from the stalk?

i took the switch out of the stalk and clean all the conectors on the board few times but it still doesn't work.

my break lights are working so i thought that maybe disconnecting the battery might work, i just want to know if the cruise is still working or do i need a new stalk

Mine took a few cleans with wd40 on a cotton bud cleaning the greyish contacts the top switch touches.

I went through 4 cotton buds, all jet black.

its bound to be a fault code.
