iTunes on Android?

Featured Replies

My lad's got rid of his iPod Touch, and updated his phone to some Samsung Android thing.

So he's got a reasonable iTunes library on our pc, is there a way of playing them on his phone? Ideally it would mean he doesn't need to buy an ipod classic.

I've had a bit of a go with DoubleTwist, but not too successful. Any other ideas?

Normally with Android you can just select the option to mount your SD card on the PC which usually appears when you plug the USB cable in, and then drag and drop whatever you want across to it. Although if your stuff in iTunes has actually been bought from the iTunes store then I don't think the default Android media player will play it.

http://pocketpccentral.net/help/android/general/play_itunes_music.htm suggests that if you've bought DRMed music through iTunes then this simply won't play at all on Android. So depending what formats his collection is in, he might be out of luck and have to do a lot of burning to CD and then re-ripping to a more open format such as OGG/MP3 to get it to work.

Theres an app for it ,worked fine for me, its called easy phone tunes.

Ask on androidforums.com. I know there are plenty of itunes users there

All the files From iTunes are stored in the 'My Music' folder on your computer. Look at how you get there in my photo:

Update, synched with doubletwist on pc and phone, and its worked ok. Oddly the music plays with the ordinary Android music player?

I got on fine with double twist, although I'm using it on a mac, which might help.

I use double twist to sync from iTunes.

But as said above any DRM protected music won't work without some fiddling.

On double twist you can also sync over WiFi which can be handy.
