more bloody headlamps !

Featured Replies

Just found out why my o/s headlight won't adjust , either manually or via the range motor . The latter is inop , pulled it out and operated the control wheel and it's deceased . Or diseased . So that looks like a new motor , then . Found the manual adjusters to be broken where the adj mech actually mounts to the back side of the reflector bowl . So , what I need to know , is , seeing as it's a bank holiday and I can't get hold of a new lamp assembly ,having pulled mine apart it appears that the wiring for the range motor and to the bulb holders come from the back side of the black connector that the headlight electrical connector clips to . So , does this bit of wiring usually come with a new headlight unit ,or does it have to be taken from the old unit and tranferred to 't new 'un ? If it needs swopped over , how does one go about it ? - does the black male side of the connector actually remove from the headlight unit , and if so how to release it ? I reckon the damage happened when I T-boned some old dear in a Suzuki Wagon-R last year . ( TIP- don't buy one o' them , they're flimsy as hell ,it was written off with hardly any damage to t'owd Skoda ! )The n/s head light was replaced due scratching , and the range adjust had'nt worked on it for a while , but it was fixed for "free" as a result of the shunt . I reckon the impact was what broke the reflector bowl attachments on the o/s one , tho' . If your lights won't adjust manually , that could be the case ,so check by removing the bulb access door and seeing if the reflector is loose . If so , there's your likely problem .

I have an OS headlamp housing that you can have for £10, but you will need to swap all of your gubbins over to it, including the range motor and wiring, as I have used the rest of the bits in my OEM xenon conversion.

You're quite useful with all these parts Si! :giggle:

Ta for the offer , ExAudi......

but yesterday got me a new 'un ,and relieved to find it has the wiring and bulbholders present ,'cept the sidelight holder . Cost me £49.99 . Just waiting on the dealers to let me know when the headlight motor arrives . That was £39 plus VAT. Then I'll get me Philips Extreme Vision bulbs in , and see how they pan out .If they're any good , I'll put a pair in me Corvette , and save the 500 + quid the projectors were gonna cost . Nice kit , tho' and all specifically designed for us wot drives on the left .
