Octavia vRS Timing Belt - Bit of Luck!

Featured Replies

I just had a new timing belt fitted by Hughes Skoda in Aylesbury.

I was originally quoted £451.80 inc VAT. Because of work commitments I left it for a few weeks and when I returned to book it in, the price was reduced to £249.95 inc VAT because of a special "cambelt" promotion! Result!!!

Also had the 4th variable service at 86k miles and the only slight problem was the front pads are 85% worn. I didn't have the heart to say they were the original pads from new, obviously not driving it hard enough! :)

Good stuff......My mate changed his brakes on his PD130 Polo at 110k..and that was only due to corrosion, not actual wear!

Mine are changed around every 30,000, must leave these lead boots in the house :giggle:

TBH I spend 90% of my time on the motorway, no need to brake....well until I reach the M25!

That's a good price on the timing belt, did that include a water pump change as well?

No it didn't, that was an extra £80 or so. The water pump is inspected and changed if needed. I was told that they only replace about 10% of water pumps on the TFSI engine, whereas other dealers and independents I spoke with say they change them as a matter of course when the belt is being changed. Has anyone on here had a water pump fail?

It makes sense to do the water pump at the same time purely for the reason that if you don't it takes just as long as a cambelt change to do due to it's position. When the belt etc is off it takes about 20mins to swap over.

Hopefully you will be ok as £250+ of labour to replace a £40 part is a going to sting a bit :giggle:
