Stereo Advice - can't get a constant live

Featured Replies

Hi all, just got my new headunit today. Its blooming amazing but... I can't get a constant live still. So every time I get in the car I have to reprogram it. GRR.

Any ideas?

Switch the +12v feeds in the loom, I am betting your Headunit uses the reverse to what the Octy supplies.

ie. +12v ignition and +12v perm need to be reversed. Quite often head units supply an extra loom which lets you do this. When I installed my Parrot a few months ago it had a loom to provide that functionality.

Is it a Sony? My Pioneer just worked

Its a pioneer.

I went and took a look and I can only fit the brown in one place and the black in one place? are they the 12v's you mean or is there something else there?

Theres usually a red and yellow wire both with bullet connectors. Jst swap them round had to do it with mine.

I did notice as I was fiddling around the lights flickered. Does that mean there's a break somewhere

Or you have a slight short somewhere....

With the HU disconnected, check that you have both a +12v perm (memory) and +12v switch (ignition) in th eplug which goes into the back of the HU.

Check the fused (if inline ones) have not blown.

Nuts, Just found out our multimeter is broke.

If I am not getting power on them what would be my next steps? Also where am I testing these to? The head unit or the harness? I am not great with this sort of stuff so you will need to bear with me.

It appears it is fixed now!

Partially my fault....

I kept thinking because it was showing demo mode it must be resetting itself. but after a few tests, it has appeared to solve the issue.

Cheers for the advice.
