Superb Estate Costs

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Brought my Superb in April 2011 where there was a demand.

Found a used one with 2000 miles for £21k

Noticed today my local skoda dealer selling the Estate for £16.995 used.

A big difference in 10 months.

Shame I could not wait but like many other owners I bet you could not wait.

My view is that the 0% VAT and 0% Finance offers for various versions of the Superb has and will have a significant effect on used car prices.

I took delivery of a Superb Elegance DSG 170ps Diesel Hatchback on 1st December having changed the specification from the Estate version exactly because of the VAT and Finance offers being extended to this model.

My heart was telling me to stay with the Estate but my brain (as a retired accountant) was telling me to go for the Hatchback. My needs for an Estate are quite modest in that I do not need huge amounts of space such as might be required for a travelling salesman. My needs quite simply are to be able to carry two sets of golf clubs with trolleys without too much inconvenience.Usually it is just myself and my wife in the car which leaves a huge amount of room behind the front seats.

I have had the car for just one month now and have had no regrets. The Twinhatch works perfectly so makes it easy to load large and or long items in the boot. I also find in the Hatchback that if I take out the two side pocket doors in the boot there is more than enough room for me to lay my golf clubs across the back of the boot with plenty of room to spare. The only downside I can see is that on the Hatchback you have to lift everything over the raised sill which is about 6 inches (15cms) above floor level. I think this would make it more difficult, for instance, for owners with dogs who may need to lift them into the boot rather than let them jump in themselves.

The bottom line of this thought process was that a save of nearly £4,000 on a new car was a no-brainer for me. Also I was worried about the impact on used car prices particularly on the non 0% offer cars in say 3/4 years time. It seems from your observation that it is already evident.

I bought my Superb Estate as a 3month old to the day demo, driven by the dealer MD and with 2,300 miles on the clock, (Elegance Combi, 2.0 140PS TDi 4x4 dsg with some extras totalling around £1,100). I got just over £3,500 discount on list and it would have been the full £4k had I not had a trade in (Merc C Class in negative equity against book price which the dealer cleared and saved me a further £1,000). So...it depends on the deal. But you have done very well and the Twinback clearly fits the bill. If I could have one feature on the Estate that the Twinback has it would be the soft boot close. The ability to lower the rear estate door manually and let it rest on the keeper to electronically lock would be brilliant - not to mention being easier on the dog's nerves...

The Estate is huge. I have a big dog and like to tour with the family and the C Class didn't cut it and the Merc E Class didn't make any sense money wise against the spec and quality of the Superb. So I opted to drive a car rather than a badge. I'm very happy with the car, but it is probably too big for what I want most of the time.

On depreciation...The average quoted is £400 a month. To put this in perspective, my Merc C Class depreciated at £380 a month after 3 years when the biggest hit should have gone. But be thankful you don't have a Kia Sportage, which is depreciating at over £800 a month according to a salesperson in a local Skoda/Kia joint dealership.

I would be surprised given the growing understanding among the motoring public that Skoda is a brand on the rise and with all the good things to come in 2013 - six new models my dealer says - that residuals don't remain strong. For those in the know this is a very desirable car.

I got a 5 month old V6 driven just by the dealer with metallic paint for £24,999. It only had 954 miles on it, and I'm happy with £7K off list price

Your price is ok but not sensationell. 15% rebate anyhow on list price. Then 2000 bucks off for a half year used car. Nothing special.

Totally agree, but I like the sound of the way I put it :p

This IS already available .... but only on the electric tailgate
