Need a cosmetic repair on the car

Featured Replies

Evening all. Was in a local DIY store earlier and announcement came over the stores tannoy system. Can the owner of car reg blah blah come to service desk. Here we go. Another customer had reversed into my car - even though there was only my car and hers in that area. Well she cracked the number plate, cracked the lower chrome trim around the radiator grille but she has taken off about 4no 1" of paint on the bumper and you can see the plastic. No other damage done. So rather insurance route will look at getting it touched up by someone like chips away. The number plate and chrome trim not an issue as easily sorted. So has anyone had any experience of these mobile touch up repairs or will it be better to see a local independent sprayer.

At least she had the decency to stop and report it to be which is very rare these days. Got all her details etc and she offered to pay for it to be repaired. I'm not out to rip her off but still will like a professional job - not a 5 min bodged job. I live in the south Wales area around the Newport area. Thanks

Get it done properly insurance get it done at a professional place emoticon-0148-yes.gif

It may not just be cosmetic. There are probably polysterene pads behind the skin of the bumper to protect against low impact damage. These deform absorbing the majority of the impact force. If these are now damaged they won't work again and the next time this happens (which hopefully it wont) the result could be a lot worse.

I know the damage seems only trivial, and the nice thing to do is get the car repaired outside of the insurance, but at the end of the day it is your car, and it should be repaired fully.

Thanks for the replies. Due to the time of day, I will have a look at it again in the morning in daylight. The area affected is just above the number plate to the left below the lower chrome trim around radiator grill. Will also get it up on ramps at our yard on Sunday to check underneath

First get it checked properly as the bumper could have been pushed in a few cm then sprung out.

If you are 110% certain the damage is only cosmetic Chips Away did a good job on a work colleagues car must be 3 years ago now when his next doors neighbours youth dropped his bike on his car. The paint was scratched away back to metal and a slight dent.

When he had the car back even close up the panel was perfect and the paint has not faded differently to the rest of the car.

I had a good look at this morning but not had chance to get someone to look at the paintwork as I got called out. Came home. Got underneath. Had a look. Pulled the bumper, nothing loose. Took it for drive, no strange noises, checked for leaks etc nothing. Got a number of my neighbour of a local guy who does mobile repairs and he's contracted to the ford dealer in Newport and my neighbour is a fussy bloke when it comes to his car
