I have a 55 plate superb with 17" alloys but I want to swap them for 16" steel wheels. I want to get some from a breakers yard but am not sure which ones will fit. Has anyone got any ideas?

The Superb has a PCD of 5 x 112. Assuming you have a steel spare wheel, have a look at the numbers stamped on it e.g. 16 x 6.5J and ET42.

The 16 x 6.5J, is the diameter and width of the wheel in inches. The ET number is the offset.

Then have a search on ebay for wheels that match the details written on your spare wheel.

Off the top of my head, octavia mk2, Golf mk5, Leon mk2 ect wheels should fit your car, but check the offset ect.

The A series chassis all use 100 PCD wheels which will not fit the Superb.

Best to look for Passat and Audi ones. 7J-7.5J wide x 16 diam, PCD5x112 holes and ET35-ET40 offset should be OK. Correct spec for Superb is 7JX16H2 ET37.

Just one more thing to add. Centre bore is 57.1mm diameter, as opposed to 66mm which many Mercedes-Benz cars have - also on 5x112 PCD just to confuse things!

Later Audi A3 is also 5x112, but these come with 50 ET (Einpresstiefe - offset). Superb nominal offset of 37, so if you fit the 50 ET, then assuming same tyre width, the wheel outer face will sit 13mm more inboard. Couple this to the fact that you would have gone from 225 45 17 to 205 55 16 and the tyre width is 20 mm reduced, then add half of this to the 13 mm figure above, and your outboard sidewall will be 23mm more inboard than your 225 45 17 ET37. So, best go with Passat. I recently bought some 205 55 16 winter wheels/tyres with ET 42, and looking spot on. Not too far from 37.
