Superb 1.8T remap?

Featured Replies

Has anyone remapped a Superb 1.8T?

I'm interested in a large automatic car with some straight line poke, and a remapped auto Superb might be quite nice, then again, it may not.

Any thoughts or advice?

Thanks

Martin

Does the 1.8T Superb have Tiptronic transmission, or a conventional torque converter? IIRC there is some doubt about whether the Tiptronic box can handle the extra torque after a remap. On the other hand, the (torque converter) auto box in my 1.8T Octavia still seems to be OK, after a couple of years with a remap.

I test drove a Superb Elegance 1.9 130 a while back, and that was a tiptronic, so I assumed the 1.8T would also be. Maybe not 'cos its a lower spec?

I thought a tiptronic auto still had a torque converter?

I don't think so (but I could be wrong). AIUI, the Tiptronic system uses a conventional clutch, but it's operated automatically by the control unit instead of manually ("pedally"??) by the driver. There's also a centrifugal clutch to handle starting and stopping.

l think it is the DSG box that uses the conventional clutch, and the Tiptronic is standard Auto box that allows you to change gears manually, but l to could also be very wrong
