Estate Tow bar question

Featured Replies

I was wondering if the estate requires a cut out for a tow bar and if so is it very big also is it noticeable from behind?I cannot find out much info for the Fabia tow bar.

I got my towbar factory fitted for just over £300 which was a bargain I think. There is a really neat cut-out to accommodate the detachable tow ball so, yes I reckon you will need a cut-out. As a towcar, (mine is the TDi 105PS Elegance estate) it is good as long as you are towing a small caravan as I do. The 50 kg nose weight is a bit restricting but I haven't found it a particular problem to be honest. Good luck. PM me if you need any more advice re towing as I have towed a 1150 kg caravan for over a 1000 miles in the last year.

thanks for the swift reply,we tow a folding Riva/Dandy camper which only weighs 500kg with a hitch weight of about 25kg.I used to tow it using a 1.5 Mitsubishi Colt Diesel and it was no effort.I know people who tow 700kg trailers with 1.2 petrol engines although they admit they don't camp anywhere hilly.

The nose weight is a bit mean i would have thought 60-70kg would be better as it has a 1200kg towing limit.

My dream caravan would be a large Eriba which the Fabia could tow with ease the only problem is the cost of buying them.

I was just wondering if there was big gaping hole in the bumper when tow ball is removed,i can live with a small cut if its tucked right up under bumper.I had this feeling that the Skoda had a plate that covers the cut out but maybe that's the Mk1 model?

£300 is good value for factory fitted tow bar i was quoted today £280 for single electrics or £320 for twin electrics, that's from a big local company.

Sorry seagull I should have said that the cut-out is not obvious when the towbar is removed - it is far enough back so that you don't really see it. Your quote for the towbar with twin electrics is very reasonable I think - go for it! It will tow your small van with ease. The 50 kg noseweight is mean but will be fine in your situation.

Thanks rkenny,

I have used the towbar fitters before and was happy with the service,i also qualify for a £15 discount if i drive it to the workshop 6miles away for fitting.

I will book it in next week to get it fitted :)

I had a factory fitted tow bar put on my Elegance and it is a very neat job.

I was quoted by three fitters more than the factory fit with the VAT offer and all said the boot floor had to be cut and I would no longer have the option of having a spare wheel.

How strange?

The towbar beam should just replace the crash beam behind the bumper the spare wheel should not be affected?

It's cheaper to add the towbar while on the factory production line it will take no longer to build the car as each work station has same amount of time to work on car regardless of options.

I used to hang doors on Nissan's i had 63secs to attach it to the car and connect wiring harness this time also included dealing with cross threads and problems.
