Strange sound after engine switched off?

Featured Replies

I have only noticed this yesterday. When i switch the engine off within a second i hear a low resinating/ whirring type sound from the front of the car accompanied by a vibration which can be mostly felt through the steering wheel. This lasts for approx 8 seconds and then stops abruptly. i noticed the vibration first because it would be similar to having your mobile phone vibrate near you (which i initially thought it was.

Any help appreciated.

8seconds is quite some time for something to keep moving after the engine has turned off. Was your aircon on? I am wondering if one of your radiator fans has some rough bearings / bushes?

Still to get a vibration through the steering wheel for 8 seconds - that is quite impressive!

I think mbames is probably correct. Try turning your air con off or if you have climate control set it to econ, & see if it still does it.

Air con was off every time. I do get the usual clicks and whirrs but this was different, much different. A very low resonating vibration like a mobile phone.

Also, this maybe just coincidence but i have another new and strange noise which i intend to put up in another post relating to the front wheel (like tyre noise only i don't think it could be. Must go type up the new post.

Thanks

Colm

Suggest you get someone to turn the engine off while you have a listen/look with the bonnet open. The other noise you mention could be a wheel bearing going.
