Anyone in a vRS bought a Sachs Race clutch recently?

Featured Replies

Hi,

Just wondering if anyone's bought a Sachs Race Engineering clutch kit for DMF use recently? I sold my old friction plate and cover off my vRS (so PD130 engine, 02M gearbox, 240mm clutch/flywheel) to a member off here who said it was going on the same setup in an Octavia. However, he PMed me tonight saying that the parts I've shipped to him don't fit and that Sachs themselves say they can't be fitted and are for race use only.

If anyone's bought one of these kits, can you let me know what the Sachs part numbers are for the friction plate and cover? As far as I'm concerned they should fit:

1) they were on my vRS

2) Darkside list the part numbers as "direct replacements" on PD130/PD150 setups (which obviously includes a DMF)

3) I found an old post on here from Jabbasport with the part numbers listed as compatible with the DMF

Obviously I'm not against refunding the money and getting the parts back if they really are incompatible, but I can't see how they could be. Even if Sachs sell them for race use only, that doesn't make them incompatible just not recommended, and I'm sure loads of people on here are running them with DMFs (I've run two now, this vRS and my old Leon PD150 with the same gearbox). So if anyone wouldn't mind getting any part numbers so that I can compare, I'd appreciate it.

Cheers!

What octavia is it going onto? :wonder:

According to his profile, a Mk1 Octy L+K with the same engine as mine (i.e. PD130). I can only think of two possible reasons why it wouldn't fit straight off, either:

1) It's had a Valeo or similar full clutch kit fitted before, and therefore doesn't run the stock flywheel anymore (I believe Valeo make their flywheels thinner and their friction plates thicker than standard so you're "tied in" to Valeo parts afterwards)

2) Although it's a PD130 engine, it has a 5 speed gearbox, although the eBay auction it was sold through said 6-speed all over it

6 speed and 5 speed are quite different IIRC

Yes, they are, I know this. And if the buyer has bought a clutch clearly marked 6-speed for his 5-speed car, then I won't be offering to do anything about it. However, if his car is 6 speed and if the parts do all match up with the correct part numbers (which I am confident they will) but his mechanic is adamant it won't fit, then obviously I'll need to refund the money and get my parts back.

I'm just trying to work out what the correct part numbers are from someone who's done this specific upgrade reecntly so I can work out if I am 100% correct in what I've said.

edit - According to Parkers, the Mk1 Octy L&K PD130 is a 6 speed box, so it'll be the same core drivetrain as my vRS, which the clutch came from with an original DMF. I'm more confused than ever now how this can't be fitted and is totally wrong, it's going between the same two components it came from!
