Change front shock absorbers

Featured Replies

Hi

Is there an DIY / Step by step / "howto" article on changing the front shock absorbers on a octavia II 2005 model anywhere ? :)

I have not checked what needs to be disasembled to do this, but it seems i need to remove the front wipers to remove the cover over the absorbers ? how is this cover mounted ? any special tools needed for the job ?

Thanks for any links for threads / articles or good tips !

Hi,

Try this How-to at this US website http://www.myturbodiesel.com/1000q/a5/strut-suspension-replacement-Jetta-TDI.htm

Loads of articles and info on this site although you need to register to access all of it (Free).

The official VAG/Skoda workshop manuals website is here https://erwin.skoda-auto.cz/erwin/showHome.do

There is a cost €24 for 24 hours but you can downlaod the files and print as you like. Since it is the VAG site the info is obviously spot on. €24 is probably what you would pay for a Hynes manual - if they did one, (they don't).

If you remove the rubber seal in the engine compartment along the front of the plasic apron you might get enough access to the top of the struts - it isn't stuck down there. If you have to remove the wipers this tool would be usefull Laser 4751 Wiper Arm Puller

HTH and good luck.

Edit: fix URL
