Anybody got one?

Or any tips, about to hire one for a trip to France, should be an adventure. Passed back in '91, just never actually driven one.

If it helps and it possibly won't, I pretty much learnt to drive in vans.

Thats a lot of Booze Colin.

Make sure you strap any heavy things in the back down properly and don't overload it!

Had a 1 ton trolley escape in the back of 7.5 ton wagon whilst going round a roundabout - the whole thing "jumped" sideways what felt like several feet.

What can I say, you guys leave me feeling so up :)

Not booze, moving a friends house, or rather the contents.

Don't think there is anything seriously heavy, mostly wood and books... all adds up mind.

Will keep my eye's peeled when it comes to roundabouts and corners.

One plus is, he's not that far; Europeanly speaking, from LeMan ;)

Pretty straight forward when hiring one for "domestic use".

I'm not fully up to date but you can hire one on a car licence (depending on when you passed). Which isnt an issue to you anyway.

However if you need to use it in relation to any commercial activity or business use (even moving a business) you need an operators licence.

So you should be fine to hire one just like hiring a car, but inform them it will be on a trip to France.

Ive previously used Burnt Tree in Sheffield (Atercliffe) and them were the most flexible and offered the best rates.

Just fill it up with booze on the way back

Have a safe trip.

In this country speed limits are as for a larger van -

Single carriageway - 50 mph

Dual carriageway - 60 mph

Motorway 70 mph (but it should have a limiter at 100 kph - 62 mph)

Because you cannot reach 70 mph because of the limiter you are not allowed in the outside lane of a Motorway where there are more than 2 lanes.

Don't know the limits for France though, I'm afraid. One thing to bear in mind when you are in France, at a stop line you must be stationary for a minimum of 3 seconds. I believe it's 120 Euros if you fall foul of that one.

If the above is teaching grandmother to suck eggs, please accept my apologies.

Have a good trip.

Rob.
