Radio gaga - how should I install?

Featured Replies

Hello everyone,

Sorry if I'm posting on a subject that's been done to death but I'm racking my brains about how to go about a Head unit installation in my new Furby vRS. The model I've bought is a Blaupunkt Woodstock DAB 54, which came supplied with a Panorama external glass aerial.

Firstly, after looking under the bonnet at the battery and seeing the mass of wires going in and out of it, I realised I don't particularly want to mess around with the electrics of my brand new baby, so I'd rather someone fitted it for me. I live in High Wycombe in Bucks and there don't seem to be any decent ICE specialists who will do an install of a product not bought from them. I got the HU off Ebay so Halfords are also out of the question.

After a web search I found a mobile installation company called Unicar - has anyone had dealings with them in the past? A

lternatively there's cash waiting for any local Briskodians who could do it for me.....!

Also, do I need a harness adaptor for the unit? The Halfords website seemed to suggest this was a necessary accessory.

Finally, is it feasible to get a combined DAB/AM/FM aerial fitted in place of the existing one without any major fiddling with the existing wiring?

Apologies for my total newbie-ness.........

Thanks

Aaron (Kron_VRS)

I have had the DAB54 installed in my new Furby :) You will be very impressed with the HU, believe me

You will need the fascia adapter, which is just a little strip that sits along the top of the HU after install. If you don't manage to get one straight away, you can pop it on after the install. Most Skoda dealers seem to have them in stock though (mine ordered one & had it in next day). Cost me

For the beesting aerial www.bluespot.co.uk . I have the 53 and i couls still pick up Talksport in belgium on MW with that thing. It's excellent. The glass mount is pants and will keep cutting out as there is not amplifier for it to get a decent signal

Yeah I'll proabably get a beesting fitted when I get around to it :)

Brilliant, thanks for such quick responses.

I actually live on Desborough Avenue so I could walk to that ICE shop if it's still there......if I didn't have to bring the car with me of course.........doh!

Btw, by 'beesting' do you mean the

If you live in Wycombe go to The Sound Gallery's ICE place on the London road, just past B&Q. www.soundgallery.co.uk should give you the contact details.

I'd go back there any time even though I now live 35 miles away. Last time I was in there, there was a Ferrari 360, TVR Griff and a 911 in there. Their trophy cabinet is huge and very impressive.

I cant recommend them enough - call them..... NOW!!

Yes, I found them through a web search but wasn't sure if they'd do something as boring and simple as a head unit installation........I've sent them an email anyway.....cheers for your help!

Yep, they'll do a HU install. Probably worth giving them a call in addition to an email though.
