No problem in snow on standard coatis

Featured Replies

As per title, in 4x4 estate I had no probs today on standard conti 2's in 5" snow. Frankly any deeper and I'd start to worry about ground clearance.

So personally, I wouldn't bother with winter tyres on a 4x4 superb. I also have a set of snow shocks in the boot in case I really need them.

Cheers

+1. I have yet to feel the car loose grip or feel other than perfectly planted

Maybe so with new Conti's with Full-Tread, but i dont think i would like to be on worn summer tyres and snow...

... personally, i think you would notice a phenomenal difference with winter tyres. - it was good before, but on winter rubber, it feels much safer.

I was so impressed with the traction of my Superb when I collected it (very icy day where you could hardly stand up!) that I actually checked the tyres were not winters! :giggle:

However once the Nokian WR G2 winters were fitted it was a different ball game altogether - accelerating uphill in the snow without a hint of wheel spin

Not knocking winter tyres, my wife's Fiat 500 has winters on, so I know their beneficial effects, not just for traction, but for stopping and directional stability. Also aware that benefits are not just in snow & ice too.

The Contis are 14 months and 15k miles in, so hardly on full tread. Look I should have elaborated, as I said above 'Personally' for me in South of England there is no benefit in fitting winters to my 4x4 estate. Given the fine performance standard tyres it isn't worth the expense & effort of changing tyres or keeping two sets.

It is for the 500, not for 4x4 Superb in my personal opinion.
