climate packed up

Featured Replies

Hi all

My air con packed up the other night on the vrs. There was a high pitched noise like fan belt slipping, then nothing.

There is pressure in the system.

But neither fan works and the compresser does not kick in.

Haven't noticed the fans working when the engine gets hot too, maybe this has somthing to do with the cold weather.

Also the engine seams quieter maybe its just I am used to the air con being on.

Hope this can be a cheap fix really don't want to fork out for a new compresser.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Clutch has probably fallen off the compressor. If you're lucky it'll still be in one piece and sitting in the undertray.

The climate / ac part of the system does not function below 4c, so I am not surprised given the current temperatures that the fans are not working, The screech does sound like the drive belt is slipping, but this could be for any number of reasons.

If the clutch has fallen off wouldn't the belt have come off.

The fans have always worked no matter the temperature.

When the clutch falls off its just the centre drive plate that turns the compressor falls off not the pulley itself.

But as said AC doesn't work below 4 degrees anyhow for safety sake.

Does anyone have a pic of the compresser after the clutch has fallen off.

Decided to take car to the garage they had the car for an hour, they cleaned the connections on the compresser and the plugs on the fans.

Now have working air con again.

Thank you all for the advice.

In my excitement I phoned awesome and ordered forge short shift, dog bone mount, induction kit, and sai blanking plate.
