1.9 TDi 105 woes

Featured Replies

Folks, I'm having a few problems with my 05 1.9tdi 105hp.

Firstly, every now and then in first and second the car is very juddery when taking off. It really only happens 1 in 10 times, or even less. My initial thought was DMF, but would it not happen more frequently?

Yesterday I also noticed when accelerating hard in 3rd at 45mph or so, the revs continued to rise but there was no increase in speed. I eased off, so don't know whether it would have picked up again at higher revs, or whether it would have been the same.

This morning when accelerating at a similar speed in 4th, the revs dropped temporarily then came back.

Also this morning I began experimenting and noticed that when accelerating from 25/30 in 3rd, the revs continued to rise between 2-2.5k rpm, however there was no "go", but it picked up above this.

Could the juddering be related to the latter issues, or could I be unfortunate enough that there is more than 1 problem?

Any idea what the hesitations could be caused by? I assume it doesnt sound like symptoms of a slipping clutch, but more of a flat spot issue?

My 1st thoughts would be Duel Mass Flywheel, and Clutch.

Might be worth running it to your dealers for them to check.

I don't know too much about these things. Would the clutch slip for such a small window of revs like this though, an only in certain gears?

Would it not do it all the time?

It will all depend on the ratio of the gear you are in and at what revs the car is at. Third/fourth is a higher ratio that first/second and so booting it in these gears will require more power from the engine and more strain on the drivetrain and so if the clutch isn't too healthy it will slip.

Booting it in first/second would see less resistence as they are lower ratios so the clutch can take it and doesn't slip.

Phil

Juddery acceleration and an increase in RPM without an increase in speed sounds like a dying clutch to me my friend.

How old is the car and how many miles has it done?

That's very interesting Phil, cheers.

The car is 04 with 72k on it. To be honest I'd be happy enough if it was the clutch/flywheel, as at least it would be clear cut and wouldn't be hard to pin point! Saves fannying about with air low metres, hoses, valves etc. Also means I can go for a solid flywheel.
