central locking gone COOCOO!

Featured Replies

Hi guys has any of you had central locking problems on an Octavia mk1? Mine has decided to do what it wants, when it wants. I was at the Council tip this morning, the car was ticking over and the doors were shut, when i went back to it all the doors were locked. Thankfully one of the guys working there took pity and took me down to my house for a spare key. If you try to unlock the car from the drivers door it instantly locks itself and is pain in the butt. Can anyone help?

its earthing out

Ah. Do you think if i re-earth the earth it may make some difference or is it likely the problem is more deep seated?

Check the wiring between the door and the car by the hinges, I wouldn't be surprised if water has got in or the wiring is damaged.

and/or the door open sensor thing has failed. You know that if you unlock your car and don't open a door it relocks after 30 seconds. I wonder if one of the microswitchs in the lock assembly might be dodgy....

It is an 02 plate so its getting on a bit. Will try checking the wiring at the hinge area first then may need to look into the other door 'thingy'. Is that thingy expensive?

My suggestion isn't expensive if you are DIY and handy with a soldering iron, otherwise it would be a new lock assembly which would be more costly. But I would go with the suggestions above - broken loom or water ingress.

Does the interior light come on when you open the drivers door?

Its funny you should say that, the light no longer works when opening the drivers door. Also the little red light at the bottom of the door card has stopped working too. I have a horrible feeling you're going to say its an expensive job?

The lack of puddle light, etc is an indication that one of the microswitches has failed in the lock assembly. If you take the assembly out you can unsolder the defective microswitch and replace it.

Have a search on here, I am pretty sure there is a guide, or at least a link to the Golf mk4 site which has this covered.

Yeh, what he said.
