Water pump type on BXE engine - Plastic or metal?

Featured Replies

On a 1.9 TDI BXE engine does anyone know whether I have teh dreaded plastic water pump, or a metal one? Or potentially either?

Also, is it the impellor or the pulley that is plastic? Or both?

Thanks

Ant

I have the BXE engine too.It will be the plastic impellor type

Had mine changed with the cambelt to another plastic one from my dealer.

I understand that the plastic impellor usually fails by stripping the splines that hold it onto the metal drive shaft. So when it fails, you'll get warning symptoms of overheating rather than sudden and spectacular failure.
