Diesel Engine Oil

Featured Replies

Hi can anybody tell me if there is a way I can check if my 2002 superb is set up for Standard or Longlife service interval as I want to know what to top up with and what to use when I do an oil/filter change and also what is the best oil to use.The car has done 113000 miles and was last serviced at 106806 miles (10k service and before that 98073-(40k service--77002 (20k service-----67223 (10k service when should it be due for another

regards

In my opinion 20K miles between service, that's what i do myself. There are so many threads about what oil to use. I'm using: Castrol Edge 5W-30 Longlife III. Just remember it has to be VW 504 00/ 507 00 approved oil.

The only way you're going to really get the answer you want (what oil is currently in the car) is to ask the garage who last did it, as they could have put anything in there (not saying they have, but could have), regardless on whether the car is set up for long life. If you have a bill for the service you might be able to decipher it.

If you want to know how the car is currently set up I know you can query the instrument panel for this information via a diagnostics cable. But there is no sensor in the car which enables it to work out which oil is in it.

I know the garage I bought mine from (Skoda dealer) prefers to set all their Superbs to time / mileage but then they use the Long Life oil, which is probably the best combined service regime you can have (though also the most expensive). Even though I do a high mileage (30,000 / year) I'm going to keep it like that - 10,000 miles with long life spec oil.
