Dash Lights All Out, Wtf?

Featured Replies

hello again chaps, well had a couple of days of number 14 fuse blowing 10A ( covers interior roof light , elec windows, central locking, door puddle light, boot lights and dash bings and bongs as far as I can see) after fitting reversing sensors. It turned out when I was in a hurry to clear up and get the kids to a party I didn't connect one of the connectors to the boot light and think its that that had been blowing the fuse for some reason, as it blew every time I opened the boot.

Anyhoo, I noticed that all the dash lights including the lighting to the elec window switches where out last night when I nipped out for milk.(number 14 still blown at this time) I assumed it was the same fuse and when I replaced it in the morning it would be all well again. But no. So, despite the number 14 fuse holding now and going through every fuse individually, including the ones under the bonnet, I still have no lights

Any ideas fellas? the only thing I can think of is a hairline fracture of a fuse so cant see it especially some of the 1.5A ones which are very fine anyway.

Check fuse 3. If it's not that, you may have probably destroyed the 'lighting amplifier' - it looks like a relay and is on the relay plate above the pedals

Cool cheers for that. wouldnt have thought about a relay. Would the fuse not catch it before frying a relay or is this relay linked to #14 fuse also?

Edit: sorry I'm calling it a relay, you say its an amplifier :( not came across that before. How would I know its fried, any outward signs?

It's not actually a relay. There is an electronic circuit in there. The fuse will usually catch a short.

ooops, I knew it had to be something simple....like the owner! Well, as these things often go, with me anyway its always dark, raining or snowing so I missed the fact that the whole flippin fuse was missing!!! I must have shoved it back into the wrong slot while checking them yesterday. How could I have missed it. it was only the fact that I was using a torch which caught the metal contacts in its beam that i noticed it missing :wall: In the dictionary for stupid it says see Phil. :giggle:
