Brake Pads

Featured Replies

About one and a half years ago suddenty while driving I heard a very loud metalic noise,it was that loud people stopped to stare at my car.I stopped the car and after about 20 minutes I realized my rear brake pads were almost inexistent, all that brake material was gone.I went to the dealer and changed the brake pads and the brake rotors because they were damaged.I asked them why I don't have a sensor for the rear brake pads and they told me it wasn't needed because you still have about 500km from that point when you start hearing that metallic noise.I said Ok,thinking I actually didn't heard the noise until it became very loud, and it was my fault I damaged the brake rotors.

Today, while driving I got a message on the MFD saying "Check brake pads".I stopped the car and had a look at the front ones knowing the MIL only lits up for these ones. They were about 4-5mm width which should still allow me to drive for about 400-500 km.Then I said I should also have a look at the rear ones.Well, guess what,I measured them and they are 0.5 mm width ffs.Of course, they don't make any sound like the dealer told me.Lucky me I guess. And 1000 km ago I went for the oil change and the dealer actually told me that the windscreen wipers needs to be changed, about the washer fluid level being low but didn't even mention the front/rear brake pads.

So,in conlusion I paid £28.000 on a car that doesn't even announce me when I have no brakes.Maybe it's my fault because I don't check them, but let's be honest, what if a lady drives a Superb?Even my £9000 Golf V,and the 2004 Octavia tells me that I need to change the brakes!

So you've used a set of rear pads in 18 months?
