Auto gearbox oil change

Featured Replies

Does anyone know how to go about this?

Looking at a 2004 elegance with 155k on the clock and being an auto I figure the box will need doing, I know these boxes are supposed to be sealed and good for life, but in my experience they can always benefit from new oil.

So a few questions.

How is it done?

What sort of oil is needed?

I'll check the oil when I check the car, but need to know what colour it should be, Normally on auto's that I've owned it's a reddish colour, and if it's too dark or smells burnt then the oil needs doing ASAP. Can I assume the same is true of the Superb?

You need the correct gear oil from Skoda, I'd also change the filter which means you need a new pan gasket.

Also you need filling equipment as it gets filled through the drain hole and diagnostic equipment to read the gearbox oil temp to set the level correctly.
