How do i remove this it of Trim - bonnet handle bit? [pics]

Featured Replies

right, I need to replace a connector block withint he A-pillar of the door hinge area. The wire are very short though and if I could get to them from the inside of the car it would make life a lot easier.

As a result I want to remove the trim aroudn the bonnet release handle, hoping to find the wires coming through the car frame there.

1) How do i remove the bonnet release handle?

2) The trim seems to be held on by a big plastic screw near the accelerator pedal, and a hex nut behind the onnet release handle. Are these the only

Ive removed and refitted the connector block i believe your talking about (there are 3 plugs from the door onto this connector block attached to the a pillar?).

If so the the bonnet release catch comes off with a flat head screwdriver, but much easier with a trim removal tool (the bloody handles on these seem to have a habit of falling off so your lucky to have one staying on lol), just pry it out.

The trim runs almost to the B pillar (fits under the B pillar trim) and has about 5 metal spring clips along the sill before having 2 circular white push clips (same as on the trim on the pillar inside the windscreen) which have the little ribs on. Other than that its the big plastic screw by the pedal (the hex nut doesnt need to be removed of the release handle)

Its not a difficult part to remove really just a bit fiddly to put back as the clips can fall off easily into the carpet!

In regards to the connector block it has 4 little spring clips on on it to remove, but cant remember for the life of me whether you access them from the back or front.

You might be easier removing the dash end panel and unscrewing the fuse board which will give you more access.

Good luck and when you do get it removed im not sure if its possible, but i could really do with a pic of the rear wire connections on the Vab Com port which is located right by the trim your removing (bottom of the dash)?

Im sure that i have a wire disconnected as cant connect to central convenience and sure i remember a stray purple wire when i put the car back together.

Would be doing me a massive favour

Hi mate, thanks for all the information! I will be tackling this sometime over the next few evenings/weekend hopefully. Will see what i can getting you a pic or two! :)

Just to confirm, you literally just pry the handle off? Mine seems to be on pretty tight and i'm hesitant over the risk of breaking it.

I have tried everything to get the handle.off but.it honestly seems to be well and truly.bolted on. Even with trim tools and a screw driver it won't budge off.

Is it literally ram a big screwdriver behind it and lever off, with excessive force as mine seems! :(

Very suprised you cant just prise the handle off mate ive had to change two handles and mounting brackets due to the handle coming off and sheering the teeth in the process when pulled. If you do break it dont worry the handle and bracket were only around £12 from Skoda. There is a retaining clip on the handle but very hard to get at tho its in the form of a small square panel on the top side of the handle at the side that faces away from you, you would have to get your head right in and use a mirror and torch to see it and prise it out.
