Superb 1.8TSI FWD vs 4x4 acceleration

Featured Replies

Hi,

I'm currently driving Superb estate 1.8TSI 4x4 6spd manual and the acceleration is a bit too slow. My previous car was an Passat 2.0TSI remaped @250hp and I wondered that the difference lies there. But now I hava an replacement Superb. The engine is the same, but its FWD and also 6spd manual. But the FWD car is a lot faster trough gears. For example I measured the acceleration in 3rd, 4th and 6th gear from 80-120km/h (50-75mph) and the FWD 1.8TSI is faster. Acceleration FWD vs 4x4 in 3rd 5,1s vs 6,2s; in 4th 6,5s vs 7,8s and in 6th 11,1 vs 13,7s. Can somebody also measure the acceleration from their 1.8TSI? My 4x4 has now 13000km on the clock and the replacemant car 110000km. I had also for a while 1.8TSI with DSG FWD estate and it was also a lot faster, it had only 1000km on the clock.

When I'm accelerationg with my 4x4 then after 2500-3000rpm there is no increase in power (it accelerates, but constantly), but the replacement car accelerates wih endless power up to 6000rpm. Has anyboyd tried 1.8TSI FWD and 4x4? Did you feel the difference?

the basic thing is, the engine has more weight to pull the 4WD system around, and more components to drive if its being used...

Why shall it not accelerate constantly if the torque is constant?

I have had the Octavia Scout 1.8TSI for 2 years and it's acceleration is smooth and constant to top speed . Since the only difference between the Scout and the Superbe Estate 4x4 is weight, and on the official spec, only 0.3 MPH to 62MPH slower on the Superb Estate , I would think you should not see much difference.

But there is a big difference. According to official spec, there is only 0,2s from 0 to 62 MPH differenece between FWD and 4x4. Can somebody measure acceleration from 80-120km/h as mentioned in my first post?
