New MAF and a big improvement

Featured Replies

So I'd been having a bit of an issue with the car being a bit weak on the pick up, but not massively so that you'd notice once you're going.

After a while I put the VCDS onto the car and noticed the values looked as if there was an occasional drop in measured airflow while still accellerating in gear.

Anyway, happened to be passing a GSF and since I wanted to stock up with oil filters and the like, managed to get a genuine bosch one at a good price. So I changed it on site and did the exchange (Thanks to the chaps there) and set off back on my journey.

It's a different car now.

Everything is a lot smoother and there is a lot less smoke in the headlights of the cars behind.

MPG seems to be slightly up, but nothing that couldn't be attributed to the weather.

Anyway, long and short of it is, if you've got around the 80 to 100k miles on your car, have not changed your MAF yet and are experiencing a bit of excess smoke and roughness, then look at changing your MAF for a new one.

The MK I it was quite obvious when you neeeded a new one, but on the MK II it seems to be a much more subtle inaccuracy rather than a straight failure.
