Which integrated Bluetooth

Featured Replies

Folks I am looking for some assistance choosing the right integrated bluetooth kit for both my dad's Superb and my Octavia.

I have a 2007 vRS Octavia, no MFSW, Maxidot, retrofitted RCD510 and 7N0 CAN gateway

He has a 2011 Superb SE, Bolero, MFSW (apparently without telephone controls) and Maxidot.

I have an iPhone 4 and will most likely replace it with another iPhone (if only for the fact I can plug my guitar into it :giggle: ) and dad has a Nokia somethingorother but will replace it with a better handset once the contract runs out.

I would like my calls to be displayed on the Maxidot and head unit and I would like, if possible, to be able to answer the call by pressing one of the Maxidot function buttons on the wiper stalk. I guess dad would like to do the same (or at least answer from the steering wheel).

What determines whether the kit will display text messages on Maxidot/head unit (not that it is necessary in the least) and which kit should I buy to get the functionality I want? Is there a specific firmware version to ensure you get what will work best?

I also have a 2007 vRS with a retro-fitted Columbus and I've got the 1Z0-035-729B OEM bluetooth kit (and it's excellent btw...fantastic call quality, full voice control of Columbus). I believe this is the most up to date OEM version that will work in the Maxidot of a pre-FL Octy - all subsequent versions use the BAP protocol which the older Maxidots don't support. A newer version will still work fine and display OK on your RCD510, but you won't see anything on your Maxidot (I think the newer versions also have Bluetooth streaming audio). I believe your iPhone should work OK with the 1Z0-035-729B but I've never tried that specifically so might be worth testing that before buying if possible. I got mine from Car Systems in Poland (http://www.carsystems.pl ...although I used their eBay store).

I can't say for definite about your Dad's Superb but I recently got a 5N0035730D for my bro-in-law's 2008 Superb and it works a treat. His does have a factory fitted Columbus though rather than a Bolero, but I suspect it would probably work fine with either.

As for firmware...for a Columbus I *think* 27xx and above should be fine (including voice control) but I'm not sure about f/w for an RCD510.

I can't comment on Fiscon as I've never used one; I believe they will work with Columbus and Maxidot but I don't think you get voice control like you do with the OEM kit.

Others might be able to give you more comprehensive answers but I hope that helps :)

Another vote for car systems.

I contacted him (via ebay) told him what i'd got and asked what would work. Mine was a FL octy, so no point posting the part no

Sound quality of the VW unit i ended up with is excellent - can't recommend highly enough.

Easy to fit too

Thanks slicendice and thanks Ray - your kit won't give me the functionality (with my car) that I am looking for and think my best option will be a Fiscon Basic Plus.
