Max safe boost level for MD376 hybrid turbo

Featured Replies

Peeps with MD376 turbos, what boost levels are you running? What is a safe maximum to go to?

Isn't it on the TD site? I'm running 1.85 I think :-/

I ran a similar turbo at 1,8 which was fine for 220bhp. :) Safe.

I ran 1.9 bar

Can't find it on the site, pretty sure they say a max of around 2.0-2.2 bar. I'm sure they'll tell you if you ring em.

I think my Fabia has that turbo and mine boosts to 2 BAR and over according to the boost gauge (Stack gauge). We all know they can be out slightly.

Thanks all :)

I asked this question directly to Turbo Dynamics this afternoon.

Their reply surprised me, especially after all of the above.

1.6 bar is the max safe recommended limit!!! though they say may of their customers run 1.8 with no issues.....

I'm sure I was running 1.6 on a remapped GT1749VA!!!

And their I was going to say 1.6bar :)

I think it down to the exhaust turbine being restricted and causing boost creep if pushed to much.

 That`ll get what, about 180bhp?

At the same boost pressure, a MD376 will be pushing more air for more power than a 1749vb at the same pressure. Much better internals.

Bringing this thread back from the dead.

Thinking about buying one of these turbo's as they're on offer and my standard one has just died last night....

My question is why does the website state that this PD150 hybrid is good for 240-260bhp, yet they stated that it's good for only 1.6bar??

I'm after a turbo to run a reliable 220/230bhp ideally.

My old Allard VT2 ran 1.6 bar & produced a very safe 206bhp. Personally I'd say 220-230bhp is a realistic goal from a hybrid PD150 from what I've seen/read, though I'd rather not push one much more than that.

I'b been running it at the boost I said above putting out around 200-210bhp for 2 years now, no issues.

Im running 200bhp on a non hybrid 150!!

Maxxed out baby!
