Oil warning light

Featured Replies

Got my oil warning light on 200 miles ago, and needed to top up the enging oil so i did that, was expecting the light to go out shortly after that but it hasent, any ideas ??? its yellow in colour and is not flashing.

What engine you got?

I assume that the car did need oil in the first place if not then you either have a duff oil light sensor or a more serious problem lurking. if it did need oil then its another favorite of the VW camp check When you open the bonnet does the bonnet open symbol appear on the dash to show its open. The reason I ask this is because the opening and closing of the bonnet resets the oil light (smart boys them Germans) so if the symbol on the dash is not coming on then the switch in the bonnet catch is not working but again the issue probably isnt the switch its most likely the remains of a past water ingress issue as the circuit for this switch is behind the kick panel on the left side, a white plug most likely corroded.

To get over your problem disconnect the live from the battery for a minute or so and this will reset the oil light. One thing I have noticed is that people who have this problem with the oil light tend to dip their car for oil regular rather than let the oil light come on and have to disconnect the battery(could be a german master plan)

Oh dear, that probably isn't low oil, it's oil pressure and your pump has gone, 2.0 PD?

yellow oil warning? Coud this be service light and not oil light. Oil pressure warning light is red, oil level warning is amber, same icon. If it is a non flashing yellow oil light, it is either level is too low (check again, you could be losing oil now), or a duff sensor in a way that was not detected by ECU. (If ECU knows the sensor is duff the amber oil light flashes). Yours very own user manual  states as follows:

? Engine oil pressure too low ? page 27

? Check engine oil level, engine oil sensor faulty ? page 27

Engine oil ?

The warning light ? lights up red (low oil pressure)

The warning light comes on for a few seconds 2) when the ignition is switched on.

Stop the vehicle and switch the engine off if the warning light does not go off

after the engine has started or flashes while driving. Check the oil level and top up

with oil as necessary ? page 188.

3 peeps sound as an additional warning signal.

Do not continue your journey if for some reason it is not possible under the

conditions prevailing to top up with oil. Keep the engine switched off and obtain

professional assistance from a specialist garage, otherwise it could lead to severe

engine damage.

Do not drive any further if the warning light remains on even if the oil is at the

correct level. Do not run the engine not at idling speed either. Contact the nearest

specialist garage to obtain professional assistance.

no engine oil has been replenished, the warning light will come on again after

driving about 100 km.

The warning light ? flashes yellow* (engine oil level sensor faulty)

A fault on the engine oil level sensor is indicated additionally by an audible signal

and the warning light coming on several times after the ignition has been switched
