auto dimming rear view mirror

Featured Replies

hi i went down the local scrappys today was looking for a few bits but spotted a golf gti mk 5 in that bronze sort of colour..

anyways it still had the auto dimming rear view mirror in tact... and the yard said they would do it for a tenner but i want to no if i can make this fit before i go up there and start ripping it apart...

its a cream colour on the front but the base is black with black fittings..

any help with this?

i tried to take the auto dimming mirror auto my bora for the octy and the base was bigger. could of changed them over but they both needed to be split. Bit of a ball ache for something that dont really work that well imo.

so i could make it work just fitting it to the screen it look like alot of plastic around it... the screen had a crack in it so dont think the screen matters might just try and get mount off and fit it to mine

For a Mk1 Octy, you might be better looking for one from a donor Mk4 Golf or Bora.

There's a guide somewhere for retrofitting the Mk4 one, will see if I can find it.

cheers fella

Get It m8 they are atleast 20 quid on ebay and if you can't fit it you can atleast sell it without loosing cash

I got one from an Audi A6 I think and it was also loose on the skoda mount but I just squeezed the metal clip closer together and some ( a spot) Araldite sorted it. Nice and solid but could remove if required. Just make sure you do a dry run 1st and wire it before getting the glue out tho :giggle:

Looks totally OEM aswell.

managed to get one out off a new bora they had come in 2day, only thing is its cream colour so out comes the satin black spray again :)

only thing is it has one plug going into mirror with three wires then half way up that plastic casing that goes into head lining theres anouther plug that goes into a circle thing that sits on the screen in middle of the mount that the mirror sits on!!! is that the rain sensor???

ill try and get pics up, also the mirror has 2 lights on it and a button at the bottom does this mean i can switch it on and off? :)

Your certainly a busy boy at the moment Ian, you will soon have built yourself a Maybach  . Tell you what I miss from my previous BMW and it sounds silly the Auto Lights!! You would be surprised how useful they really are, and yes people I am aware that my arm/hand can reach the switch less then a foot away from me.

hahahaha yh i am fella i have everything for the heated seats apart from the wiring loom wich im waiting for!!, the bora i got the mirror from 2 day had heated leather seats but the heated switches are different  i also managed to get my 5.5ltr washer bottle with both pumps and the hoses that run to the headlight washers lol  just need the headlight washers now :giggle: more hunting about.... but just want more info on wiring this mirror as plan to drop the headlining 2mora :wall: fun fun fun

Well good luck it sounds like a night mare all those wires, I can even bring myself to fit the two rear lights in the roof lining as I will probably **** it up and they will come on when I brake or something. lol. I am sure though it will be worth it, The octavia is a lovely car even though they are getting on. However that makes me like them even more as you don`t see that many knocking around... I like to think of it as the Original Mk1 vRS, sounds good in my mind. I am very proud of my car though.
