Picking up my vRS this Weekend, Things to Ask Dealer

Featured Replies

Hello so im travelling from Nairn to Edinburgh to pick up my first Skoda, its a used Octavia vRS estate in black with a full service history from the Skoda Dealer in Broxburn.

I think now is my chance to ask the dealer if he can activate a few things via VCDS before I pick it up.

I have read a few posts about a few of these but I would like to double check before I go asking odd questions to my dealer.

Cornering fogs, is this possible on my 2006 Octy?

Are the coming home lights already activated? And im assuming if they are they work though the dipped beam not the fogs as of factory spec.

Can they be changed to my foglights?

Instrument staging?

Brake lights flashing during heavy braking?

Central unlocking all doors with one press?

Anything else worth having?

Also how should I word it on the phone call to the garage, should I use the term VCDS options? or vag com options?

Also seeing as it is a Skoda dealership they shouldnt really have a problem doing this for me FOC, right??

EDIT, as in next weekend, 24/3

Cornering fogs, is this possible on my 2006 Octy? I believe this should be possible

Are the coming home lights already activated? And im assuming if they are they work though the dipped beam not the fogs as of factory spec. If not they should be able to activate them - If theres no light sensor then they might operate during the day as well but I guess this is no hardship

Can they be changed to my foglights? Yes they can

Instrument staging? Not available on a pre facelift

Brake lights flashing during heavy braking? I believe it would be hazard indicators under heavy braking rather than flashing breaklights

Central unlocking all doors with one press? Should be possible

Anything else worth having? I have Scandanavian DRL activated using the fogs at 50% instead of headlights but this is very much a personal choice otherwise I think you have just about covered everything.

Also how should I word it on the phone call to the garage, should I use the term VCDS options? or vag com options? Dealers don't have VCDS, they have VAS which I believe is quite different.

Also seeing as it is a Skoda dealership they shouldnt really have a problem doing this for me FOC, right?? You're buying a car right, so they should set it up to your requirements as part of the PDI, but be aware due to the supposed complexity of doing some of this via VAS they may claim some options are not possible.

Thanks for the great answer.

I called the dealer today and told him I have a mate who was telling me all about these settings the garage can change on your Skoda, the guy I was talking to said he wasnt sure of such things but said he would leave a note for the head mechanic to call me back on Wednesday once he has had a look.

This is exactly what I was expecting, if it wore a face to face discussion I dont think I would have plucked up the courage to even bother going into detail.

So anyone near Edinburgh or the road back up to Nairn willing to help me out with some VCDS coding?

As Anddenton mentions the dealer software is much less able to make the changes and as a result you'll likely find they come back to you with a long list of 'no's'.

All of the changes you list above are possible (with the exclusion of the needle sweep) using VCDS so good luck in finding someone close by. There is a thread somewhere listing all the memebers with VCDS who are willing to help...
